I have often beat myself up this way over the years, subconsciously holding myself to some " higher standard " than everybody else. Only through the experience of chronic pain has this become self-evident to me, and I had to come to the realization that it is truly the height of arrogance to think I was somehow required to be " better " than everybody else. Not only has chronic pain taught me a wealth of tolerance for others, it has taught me greater tolerance for myself, and that is truly a gift.
