Guest guest Posted January 4, 2006 Report Share Posted January 4, 2006 Well supposedly someone got the idea years ago to make a round wreath like kind of CINNAMON flavored cake with icings...purple, yellow, and green, and inside is a little bitty plastic baby. Now, as it goes, you cut a piece and if you get the " baby " you have to throw the next KING Cake party for the 'group'. The reason this starts on the 6th of January is because , supposedly, WE THREE KINGS...searched in a round about way for the " baby " ...Get it???LOUISIANIANS HAVE CELEBRATIONS FOR EVERYTHING...I'M sure that some baker will come up with some unique confection for this severely altered mardi gras season and the king cake will be changed due to Katrina. As it stands, many of the Mardi Gras Krewe's are having difficulty getting together their plans, etc. Many of them are spread all over the nation. This puts a real damper on one extremely old tradition. (if you are interested, the king cakes can be ordered online...if I were rich, I'd send all of you one. it is neat, it comes with mardi gras beads and stuff and the story.) I was delighted to hear that our Ursuline nuns moved back in this week and are operating their school again in New Orleans. They are the oldest order in the nation...have been here the longest, and their school the oldest too I believe, of its kind. If anyone has aspirations for opening a business...now is the time to CONSIDER MOVING TO nEW ORLEANS OR NEAR THERE. The jobs are plentiful and there are not enough people to fill them. And we are down right the sweetest people...so friendly, we like to feed the MASSES...Festivals all year long. CRawfish festival, shrimp and petroleum festival, bonfire festival, andouille festival, etc.etc. the gall bladder is better but now I know what the " back ache " was last night when I slept so poorly. Texas is beating USC...got to go... yes I am pulling for the LONGHORNS...LSU already did their number on MIAMI... I will miss football so much...but I am a huge baseball fan so once that starts I will recuperate. Basketball...just can't watch it, it moves TOO FAST for me to enjoy it. you know, the eyes going back and forth and back and forth...nystagmus is bad enough. ...
