Re: For Those Who Depend on These

My husband and I went to Lowe's yesterday, and sure enough, some jerk pulled

into the handicap spot next to ours. No plates, no tag, and no handicap

(30-something, very physically fit man). I was livid!

I so wanted to do something that I read in a book once: Write a little note

saying, " I'm so sorry I hit your car. Call me at [either unintelligible phone

number of the phone number of a disabilities advocacy group] " . Leaves the

offender in quite a dilemma--can't exactly call the cops to report the alleged

hit-and-run since he/she is illegally parked. Not to mention can't find the

" damage " the note-writer claims to have inflicted.

I think I'm going to write up a bunch of these little " love letters " and keep

them in the glovebox, so I can use them whenever I find a selfish, rude,

inconsiderate fellow shopper who commandeers a handicapped parking space

illegally.

Hugs,

Wow. I have seen so many people park illegally in handicap parking. I have

left a note before. Usually, though, my husband just gives them a dirty look if

we see the person. It really gets on my nerves when people abuse those spots

and when people illegally park there even though there is parking elsewhere.

Hi a if you have the local PD # use that instead

That should be intersting. Well ya see officer I was

parked n here in this handcapped space and ....

yet i cannot seem ot find a any dammage. Or take to the

store manager about it and get the tag # so he can be

asked over the intercom to moc\ve his illegally parked

car of have it towed it could well be it will get

towed.

I get so angry, and want to do so much more than a dirty look, but

then I'm afraid of starting a fight I can't finish. These clowns are

Grade One A-holes, and a dirty look won't bother them a bit, they park

there because they feel they are more important than the rest of the

world.

I have a handicap sticker, but rarely use the spaces and will leave

them open for someone whose need is greater. I can walk fine, and

don't mind the exercise. I only use the spaces on days when I'm

hurting bad OR have to carry something heavy.

When I see offenders I always call the mall security, but don't feel

like parking compliance is very high on their list of priorities.

Instead of paper notes I'd prefer bumper-sticker-sized notes, and

stick them to the windshield right smack in front of the driver

Bumper sticker labels are available at most office supply stores. You could

make bumper stickers with your inkjet printer and put them on the back of the

offenders' cars. Chances are they'd drive around for awhile, before they

realized that the bumper stickers were there. :-)

I like the way you think. Yes on payday I'm going to Staples

now. Watch me get arrested :)

I'd inquired about Disabled American Veteran plates, for my vehicles,

which (unless I'm mistaken) would allow me to park in a designated

handicapped space, the same as with a typical handicapped

tag/sticker/plate.

My VA doctor told me that I'd have to be 30% (disability) rated, or

higher, to qualify for Disabled Veteran plates, and I'm only 10%

rated, with my chronic ankle sprain. With that, as I'd been doing

prior to asking my doctor, I just look for non-marked parking as close

as possible.

With the Christmas shopping season upon us, it's a good thing I've

recently started using a cane. I won't be the only person treking

from " the back 40 " of a mall/shopping center parking lot with a cane.

I've seen that plenty of times, in the past, before I started using

one.

Dear Friends,

Hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving. What really makes me mad too is when

they squeeze their cars in between handicapped cars. I had it happen to me at

the mall last year.

It was raining and this lady did not want to get wet. She parked between me and

the next car. I was in my wheelchair and could not get in my car needless to say

I had her fined.

She tried to talk me out of it by saying she was sorry she did not see the

lines. I told her that I accepted her apology, but I still was going to have her

fined.

Another thing has anyone tried to push people taking the parking at Walmarts or

places like that. I have went to the security and store managers and they both

said they could not do anything about it

because it is on private property.

Is it that way in other places or just in South Carolina?

Love and Hugs,
