There were some real lessons learned regarding seeking out the best doctors available -- not just the best at your local community hospital. The knowledge and outcomes are frequently far different if you have the true experts. (Would you care to expound on this? Does this mean you initially went to some less good MDs and then experienced a difference when you were with a true expert? It's always good to hear these stories - for learning and re enforcement purposes. Hope you'll tell us more.) Glad you're back, Barbara B. Guest guest
Hope everything went well for you too, Pierre. Glad you're back at home. If you wanna share your experiences, feel free.... You were sorely missed (not to take anything away from , who did a great job covering for you). Curtis I'm back Hi everyone. Just to let you know I'm back home. Lots of new messages and some new members I see. It will probably take me a couple of days to catch up, but, I will be reading every message. Hope everything went well for all of you. Guest guest
Thanks Curtis. Just did a 24 hour urine collection at the hospital. Don't know the results yet. I think this is my first since about a year ago. Other than that, with 150 mg Avapro (irbesartan), 5 mg felodipine and 40 mg furosemide, my resting BP (when at absolute rest) is still 130/90 - but that's a big improvement. I have no edema at all, but I still seem to need the diuretic (furosemide), despite a very strictly controlled and enforced renal diet that is about as low as you can get in sodium. My nephrologist said I am now about 12 months away from needing dialysis, but a lot will depend on how well I can keep my BP controlled. It should still be lower. My options for that are limited because there are a number of BP meds that I'm either allergic to or that really, I mean really, don't agree with my body. At this point, a person might think, hey, if I'm going to be on dialysis anyway, and if the super strict renal diet may only delay that by weeks or months, maybe I should just enjoy the food I like while I still can. But then I regain my senses, since the high blood pressure is really deadlier than the renal failure in many ways, so.... guess I won't have that pizza tonight after all. Guest guest
Hi Jen Good to hear from you again. Also good to hear about about your numbers, I hope they continue to improve. I absolutely agree with you about having doctors you trust, in my opinion, it is half the battle. I am very fortunate, I have a diligent GP and a very good Nephrologist, the two combined give me heaps of faith. Best wishes I'm back Hi all I'm back after a couple of months. Long story short I was getting to much mail & my server kept telling me that, so I had to quit the group for a while. Any way I had a checkup with my Neph last month & it really went well. I have been quite dillegent about taking my fish oil & medicins & it seems to have paid off a bit. My levels were MUCH better that my last visit 3months prior. As a matter of fact my creatine level is lower than it has been since I was pregnant & they found the protien in my urine. My last visit it was over 1700 & this time it was like 814. Also mykidney function has increased from I think 60 something % to 71%. My blood pressure was 100/80 so I was a little concerned by that but my Neph was very encourageing. Having a doc that you can trust really makes a difference. Any way.... Just wanted to " check in " Hope all is well with all. Jen
Guest guest
Hi Jen. Always great to have better numbers than the last time, eh! No need to be concerned over a BP of 100/80 though. That's pretty good. Pierre I'm back > Hi all I'm back after a couple of months. Guest guest
Hi Joy, welcome home. I know Hawaii was good medication. I would love a big dose. We have a friend that has a condo in Kona and Oh I do LOVE it there. I don't think I could fly anymore. I don't know when all the fun stuff stops. How did you do on the flight? Are you ok other than being tired. Get a good rest. Love and Prayers, Peggy 9/04 ipf Florida Hi ... I've been gone for awhile. Guest guest
Hi Peggy and Everyone! Just got back from having lunch with Sher, It was so much fun getting to meet in person and gab and gab and gab. . .I think I could have talked for 4 or 5 more hours but Sher wiselystopped us at the three hour mark (we were both getting a little sob). I think we should all fly to Kona and spend a week in your condo-eating and talking and laughing and eating some more.I am putting a photo of us on the website. Wish so much you could have been with us-Peggy wrote: Hi Joy, welcome home. I know Hawaii was good medication. I would love a big dose. Guest guest
Joy, I had a ticket to go to Honolulu this Thur. but had to cancel it because my pulmonary doctor did not recommend that I fly now. It was a big disappointment as I had the trip planned to see my new baby grand daughter. Are you on oxygen 24/7 and if so what type of portable concentrator are you using or what arrangements did you have at the airports? My primary care doctor thought I could make the trip, but when the pulmonary doc advised against it I agreed as the logistics of the oxygen had me worried also I need to be available for a lung transplant team when they call me to set up an evaluation.
