I am so sorry everyone. I didn't mean to scar anyone. I just found it

interesting about toxemia, and wondered if their was any kind of connection,

since no one knows where Igan comes from. Just to let you know, I did have

two successful births. and my boys are now 7 and 10. And so far they are

healthy. Their peadatrition does sometimes test them for blood or protean.

since we don't know if Igan could be heradatary. but as I mentioned my

disease progressed to detection 4 months after the birth of my second son.

and that is when they told me i could not have any more kids, because it

would progress the disease, possibly to end stage. I am very lucky and thank

God I have them. And thank God my Igan didn't advance to detection until the

pregnancy was over. Again I am very sory, I didn't mean to alarm anyone.

Thanks,

Yes, . It is very nice here today. lots of sun. My kids wore shorts to

school today. I wish I could be in England. I don't like living near the LA

airport, The nuclear plant and Disneyland, right now with the terrorists

threats.

Speaking of such, the no children thing, is that just a female thing, or

should males also be worried? Being just 25, I would love to have kids (one

day-just in case my girlfriend is listening [not right now please]) but

would be devestated if this was not possible.

You can relax. It is only us ladies who have to worry. My Nephrologist

advised against having children, predominantly because there is no

guarantee that it would not exacerbate the IGAN, thus speeding you along

to end-stage. Apparently we ladies with IGAN run the risk of increase

protein levels, pre-ecampsia, BP problems, and even premature

deliveries. That said, he said if I really wanted to go ahead, he would

support me, but I would have to be prepared to be monitored more closely

than normal first time mothers. In the end, and upon discussion with my

husband, who was dead set against it for my health, we came to the sad

conclusion that it was not to be.

Now that is my angle to it, of course there are ladies within our group

who have gone on to have very healthy babies with little or no problems,

so I tend to have an 'open mind' on this one, and again it is down to

personal choices.

So there you are, I am sure I have informed you correctly, if not I am

sure someone will jump in. I would say look forward to dirty nappies

then LOL!!!!

Best wishes

Glad you have found something useful in our files. I have never seen

anything that connects IGAN to anything in particular, which is why it

is such an unpredictable and difficult condition to treat. Toxemia on

its own is a very serious problem, life threatening even, and I would

think if you had compromised kidneys e.g. IGAN, you could find yourself

in real trouble indeed. I would think you were advised against having

any more children because as you say your IGAN did progress with you

during pregnancy.

So to summarise I don't believe there is a link between Toxemia and

IGAN, I guess you could end up with Toxemia if something were to go

horribly wrong with your kidneys. Anyone else seen anything that might

prove me wrong?

Best wishes

I was just on the files section of this group. I read the personal file

from

an anonymous pregnancy story. I found this really interesting, since I

was

told when I was diagnosed with Igan that I could not have any more

children

with this decease, and they tied my tubes. My neph. told me having

children

progresses the decease. Also she mentioned she got toxemia with both

pregnancies. This is really interesting. I was diagnosed with Igan after

It

progressed during a pregnancy. but I didn't have Toxemia. The

interesting

thing is that my mother had toxemia while she was carrying me. is their

a

connection with toxemia and Igan?

Nice to know our Files section is useful. The personal story on pregnancy is

a real one, provided by one of our members in response to a pregnancy test,

and edited by me to make it anonymous.

This group is a " living " entity, and you can all contribute your personal

stories and other files.

Dont be sorry. For me, that is what this group is all about. There might be

someone who might be or go into a simular situation, so dont ever be sorry

for sharing.

More than being scary, I think everyone is looking for information, being

information starved from our nephs. I feel thankful thay messages like this

appear as they start me thinking about things I might not have.

Hi

You didn't scare me honestly, sometimes these questions do arise, and

they have to faced. Don't worry about it ok. Thanks for raising

another interesting line of discussion.

Hi

I wish, I am actually in England, swop you right this minute though

LOL!!!! Surely my setup on my Outlook must be up the creek, normally

the US are about 6 hours behind me, differing from state to state of

course. Am I right in thinking you have something called sunshine in

California right now? Here is cold but for once sunnyish.

Nice thought for a moment though.

Re: (no subject)

Hi . I noticed you must live near me ,by the time listed on your

email.

I live in orange county, California.

  • 5 years later...

Had my monthly pulmon. appt last Thursday. Was not a good one. The Dr. said he no longer is treating the disease but is now going to treat the person, he said he is going to help me get through this. He prescribed morphine (liquid). I told him I was not in pain just extremely out of breath now, fainting frequently. He said that with morphine, I would still be extremely out of breath but would not realize I was so out of breath. How can this be? He also told me I had procrastinated long enough about Advanced Directives and again talked to me about Hospice and the need for it. Then, he said he wanted me to wear a face mask oxygen supplier. I really didnt understand why, even though he explained it. He said it would "force" more oxygen into my lungs. Has anyone every experienced this? I dont want to wear that thing unless I just have to. One more thing...I found out that Cigna only pays for 60 days of Hospice. So, my dilemma...do I get it now and hope I die in 60 days? Or do I wait a month , 2 months? Dont know what to do. Need some help. Any of you with experience or ideas, please respond. (I did get my Advanced directives completed.)

Thanks for reading this and any assistance.
