Guest guest
First, let me say that I " finally " employed one of the most wonderful, caring, patient, understanding and helpful nurses. This woman went beyond the call, loved my child as her own....and to this day, still keeps in contact with us. She has become part of our family, and we all love her. But, before we found her, we had a nurse (notice I said HAD.....) that when I got up in the morning and went to the kitchen to get coffee, I found her boyfriend sleeping on my couch. She said he was heading home from a party and was pretty drunk, my house was much closer than theirs and she told him to come there to " sleep it off " . Needless to say, she is no longer employed with the agency we were using, AND, I think she was reported to the state and she lost her license. Then, we had the nurse who smoked in the house, around my daughter, when she had her stents in. AND, we think she was also inhaling her medicine to " catch a buzz " . I couldn't figure out why my daughter was sick all the time while this nurse was on duty. The minute that nurse was gone, we no longer had the breathing problems.....and, this nurse was stopped about a month later in a road block, charged with endagering the welfare of a child (her own) because she was found to be under the influence from " inhaling household products " . Nice.....takes all kinds. Thank God we no longer need nursing care. Good luck to all of you! There are some wonderful people out there, you just need to find them. Home Nursing Does anyone else have a problem with home nursing as far as the nurses being lazy, not changing diapers, and just being plain out bitchy because they think they can get away with it? My wife and I still don't like to go to bed at night because our nurse is so lazy. I was up watching television after she got there and she was mad that I was watching my tv, in my house, and she couldn't watch what she wanted. She is not there to watch television. We usually go to bed right after she gets there so I don't know what the hell she is doing. We get up in the morning and my son has a full diaper, so I know what she's not doing. Guest guest
We have two nurses that we love to have, it's just the luck we have had with the majority. Maybe we seem too picky to them, but that's my kid. I have to look out for him because he can't. I do apologize to all the good nurses out there, I didn't mean to imply all nurses are bad. Just like any other job, you have good ones and bad ones. --- Vankoughnett wrote: > First, let me say that I " finally " employed one of > the most wonderful, > caring, patient, understanding and helpful nurses. > This woman went beyond > the call, loved my child as her own....and to this > day, still keeps in > contact with us. Guest guest
Could I tell you 10 years worth of nursing stories???? I think I could write a novel. But I will say we have had some gems. Right now and for the past 4 years they have been good but there were some very awful nurses and people...they just were not right. They endangered my child by their neglect. YOu have to watch them. Everyone is human and there are good nurses and bad as well as good and bad teachers, lawyers,etc....you get my drift. we have had at least 5 agencies and there is a big turn over but once a nurse loves your child and your family, you want to make sure you keep them. Good luck to all of you who have to go through this. I have also interviewed and hired some nurses on my own. One nurse that I did hire on my own has been with us for going on 4 years. She has become a personal friend and is a great help to us. and family
Guest guest
Ken You sound like you need to talk to the agency who hired her. That nurse needs to be attending to the needs of her patient--not fulfilling her needs!! She could be held for malpractice if your child should develop a decubitus ulcer (bedsore) from wet/soiled diapers. Iris

My question is why do you put up with it? She works for you, you lay down the ground rules and you insure she follows them. I pick my nurses carefully, and they know what I expect from the first minute they start (even before meeting Zak). I also make random spot checks (even in the middle of the night) and they know that is to be expected. If you are dissatisfied with your nurse, find another one. Guest guest
We are actually getting a new nurse at the end of the month. We just need to hold out until then. Guest guest
Ken - this is a very frustrating situation!! Do you have a case manager who sets up these services for you? I know that I have had to kick a few nurses out of my house, cancel shifts and make some major complaints with nurses who would pull that kind of sh**!! It makes me soooo mad. Luckily, we have 2 nurses we can trust, but not much more than that. Do some screening with nurses before they come out. We never let a nurse work that I haven't met prior to the first shift. Sometimes my husband or I have to cancel work or plans because we have no one we can trust. Unfortunately, it seems to be a universal problem. Guest guest
Sometimes that is easier said than done...you may be stuck without a midnight nurse for a week trying to get the " hole " filled and doing 24 hours is not possible esp when you have a job and other children and a husband...etc etc....it is a very difficult position we are in. Right now things are fine for me but I have had my share with the nursing probs for the past 10 years. I can relate to those who have this difficulty. ck
