Guest guest
So I have a question………… I'm 39 lbs away from goal. I'm 169lbs and my Dr's goal is 130. People keep telling me oh you are sooooo skinny……… I'm not!!!! I still have a gut and back fat. Yes I am smaller than I was, I'm fitting nicely in a size 12 pants and skirts. I'm by no means skinny!!! It is getting really annoying when I say I want to lose another 40 and people go oh no you don't need to. I do need to. I spent the majority of my high school years at 170 lbs. I want to be in 130's!!! I want clothes to fit nicely and I want to be healthy. I'm going to ignore the comments…………. Any ideas on a nice come back?? Thanks!!
Guest guest
I went through exactly the same thing and you should ignore them! I can think of a few good comebakcs - but if you don't want to be rude then just tell people nicely that you are under doctor's orders to loose another 39 pounds and that will in fact put you into the normal range. Like you I was pretty much around the 160-170's from my mid-teens until I came to the US 13 years ago. But I was never happy at that weight and I didn't want to settle for it again. Our friends and family have trouble accepting the changes we go through. My hubby is still struggling with it. When I saw my Dad last week in England (for the first time since last June) he didn't say a lot. Then he called me when I got home and said he was so shocked that he just didn't know what to say. He had seen photos but he was still speechless when he saw me in the flesh. He's never really known me as a slim adult. It's an adjustment for everyone. HTH Carol Any ideas??? Guest guest
Carol, Were you shocked when your father called you?? Was he kind when he did call you? I hope so!! Thank you for your advice. It is nice that friends notice, I am very grateful. I just wish that they would stop saying oh you are so skinny........ HELLO no I'm not!! My sister is skinny my mother is a twig at 110lbs. I know that I will never be that small they are built differently than me. I would just be happy to be healthy and in the 130 range. Okay I'm babbling!!! Thanks again!!! Guest guest
No, my father told to tell me that he was so shocked when he saw how 'thin' I was that he didn't know what to say! It took him 2 days to process in this head what he saw and then he called me when I got back to the States. I spent about 4 hours with him and I assumed that because he had seen photos that I pretty much looked like he expected. However, apparently, to him I looked so much smaller in person!!! Interestingly my BIL is on anti-psychotic drugs. So he is in a zombie-like state and doesn't talk to anyone. The night before my FIL's funeral he sat with me and a bunch of other people in the same room for a couple of hours and didn't say a word. When I got up to leave and gave him a hug he started babbling about how much weight I'd lost and how I shouldn't loose any more! So I guess our changes are quite 'shocking' to people when they have only known us as heavy. I think they need time to get used to our new image. Problems is that we lose so quickly that they don't get time to get used to how we look before we change again. Maybe that's why they say the stuff about us not needing to loose any more???? Anyway in short - once again - ignore those comments and go for your goal! Carol Any ideas??? > > > > > So I have a question.... I'm 39 lbs away from goal. I'm 169lbs and > my Dr's goal is 130. Guest guest
Hi -- I think you said you have not shared your surgery with a lot of people...just not their business. So why is your goal weight their business? If someone asks, respond with 'Oh -- I don't know...we'll see when I get there...' and smile. OR 'I Don't know how much I want to lose or weigh...I want to feel good, and I am well on my way' How can anyone that cares about you, argue with that goal? I did that for a while...and it's a bit sassy, but a cute way of telling them 'I ain't tellin cuz it ain't none of your beeswax'... And I am 2nd in the sassfactor department...2nd only to the Sassmaster General (I wonder if she'll read this?) Good luck! jb-bb " heather o. Guest guest
How about not discussing your weight with them at all? If someone asks, then change the subject. And if they ask again, ignore them and move on. I had someone like that (note the past tense) who only wanted to ask about the scale moving...when she would call and I'd say I'm busy and not call back she got the hint FAST. > > So I have a question………… I'm 39 lbs away from goal. Guest guest
LOL you crack me up woman!!! You're right handling it with humor and sassiness is a great way to handle this!! You are also correct in the fact that I have not shared the fact that I've had the surgery a lot of people I know. It's the nosy old biddies that are getting to me. Okay there is this woman at my church, she really isn't that nice and she is soooo dang pushie...... she was hounding me a few weeks ago and I couldn't shake her off. I finally and polity told her I'm losing more and that is that. It was nice talking with you see you soon.......... NOT!!!! (Yes I'm bad!!!) I'm grateful that people are noticing and saying that I look great. I just haven't been sure how to handle the fact that everybody is adding his or her 2 cents into my weight loss. I've gotten a lot of great ideas from all the ladies here. THANK YOU!!!! Hugs to you!!! > > So I have a question………… I'm 39 lbs away from goal. I'm 169lbs and > my Dr's goal is 130. Guest guest
-- if she (or anyone else) gets too pushy, remind them that you weren't consulted when they chose their hair dye...and walk away. I know -- you wouldn't do that...but you could think it and feel more sassy! heehee " heather o. " wrote: LOL you crack me up woman!!!
