I'm sending positive thoughts and prayers your way. I know how scary this can

be having gone through the detached retina scenario recently with Jack.

Fingers crossed that all is OK and that if there is a problem they can do

something to arrest or repair it.

Take care,

Good luck with your doctor visit to Philly tomorrow.

Since we had long-term ear tubes and often still had infections, I wanted

to mention two things that seemed to help a lot in case they are things

that haven't been tried so far. First, limiting milk products has helped a

lot (it was hard to cut out yogurt, but when we did there were many

positives) and second the cranio-sacral work and other work done by an

osteopathic doctor helped significantly. Osteopathic doctors claim to be

very good at helping to control ear infections.

Best luck with your appointment and I hope all goes well.

My father started seeing those flashing light spots - amazingly it was right

after my mom went with me to a seminar that noted the symptoms of retinal

detachment! His turned out to be not detached, but there was a tear in the

retina. I imagine the Ophthalmologist would have noticed that if it had

occurred also with Diane. Just something to ask about?

Same procedure - laser correction - was done as would be for detachment.

Dad said it took about 2 minutes - most of it to get ready - and about 2

seconds of laser to repair it. Said the Ophthalmologist told him not to

move, he saw a very bright light, and he was done! When it was first

discovered it was only a tear, there was not the immediate push for the

treatment. The Ophthalmologist was not overly concerned that it be done in

the next few hours, although she did want it done within the following 5

days.

Best of luck to Diane at the Specialists. Hopefully there is nothing wrong

and it is only growth; but if there is a problem, my Dad says it was

amazingly simple.

Elaine I know how badly I felt for Jack and your family when I learned about

the detachment. They have so much to deal with already. Diane loves to

read and watch videos. My heart would break.

Marilyn, Thanks so much for you input. The ophthalmologist could not see

any tears so hopefully the Retinal specialist will confer with his

diagnosis. Right now I am waiting to hear from either or .

I should get some news soon. As of now she is still seeing ok, so I am

hopeful.

and Pushpa thanks for your prayers, they mean a lot to me.

and Debra your children will be in my thoughts and prayers

Prayers

To all the group

Please remember my granddaughter Diane in your prayers. She is seeing a

Retinal Specialist tomorrow. Over the past weekend she was experiencing

flashing light which is one symptom of a detaching retina. Her

ophthalmologist examined her immediately and he saw no evidence of

detachment. He believes she is just experiencing a growth spurt which is

causing her retina to stretch. Hopefully, he is correct. I am behind again

in reading the posts, but I have noticed a few new members including two

Grandmothers. I would just like to welcome them and while I'm at it (a

little late) wish everyone a happy and HEALTHY New Year.

wendy,

thank you for the good thoughts, and ideas--cutting out milk would be a HUGE

problem for him---it's his favorite thing of anything....as far as any other

milk products, it wouldn't be that much of an issue. HE used to live on

yogurt, now he won't touch it.

what we found out was, the tube in the right ear is totally out, and there

is fluid in the ear--no infection----yet...he started with a stuffy, yet,

runny nose this morning. SO, I know what is coming--infection. we go back

the 1st of feb. for an ear re-check, if we make it that long. and he's

scheduled for the 6th of feb. to get the tube put back in. the ent was

upset it came out so quickly too.

it all seems so insignificant with what other children go through, but, to

him it's a big deal...he is really trying hard to do well in school (since

he got caught), and this just makes it harder for him cause he isn't feeling

well.

oh well, we do the best we can with what we have.
