My legs were tingling all night, my feet cramped up, had muscles tremors in my legs, and my arms and legs ached. My hands were tingling and itchy. The hardest thing was walking up and down the stairs as we are not allowed to use the elevators. My legs muscles were burning by the time I hit the top of the stairs and I had to stand there for a few to let it stop before I walked any further. It felt like I had just got off a stair master after an hour or so. And going down the stairs my knees were aching. How long is this gonna last? I'm moving like an old lady. Huffing and puffing at the top of the stairs. All I could do is shake it off and keep going. Tomorrow is my MRI so maybe, hopefully they will find out whats going on. I just have to stay strong and keep my head up for now and take each day as it comes. Right now I feel like crying because I feel so bad. GRRR, I hate when I start getting down on myself. Thank goodness I found this group, you all are a godsend.Love to all! God Bless! No virus found in this incoming message.Checked by AVG Free Edition. Guest guest
Can you get a medical exemption to use the elevators? Stairs are an issue for me too. My issue is balance and my legs feeling HEAVY. At home I do one step at a time, hands on wall to hold on. I also limit my trips upstairs = our bedroom is up there, but I try to avoid going up at all during the day. Your job sounds like there's room for adjustments IF they'd permit medical exemptions. A stool & the elevator would make a huge difference for you, and if you had a doctor's letter maybe they'd have to? Guest guest
I guess I can understand rules against using stools & elevators for healthy employees with no medical issues. But, if you do receive a medical explanation for your condition, whether MS or something else, I hope the company has provisions to accommodate your situation! Forcing you to stand and walk stairs is only going to impair your ability to do your job properly. Is your job unionized? If so, they may be able to go to bat for you at your job. --Mr. Dana F. Guest guest
Hi Dana, I wish the company was union but its not. I'm just afraid if I say or do anything, they will replace me. There is only 1 cash cage that allows you to sit down however there are no windows and 1 door. I worked in it 3 weekends in a roll. I couldnt do it daily but I may have no choice. I could also work in the vault or kiosk as you can sit down also. Thats like working in a basement. Maybe thats cause it is in the basement(LOL). But if this continues, I am gonna have to do something different. I have to work for the money and the insurance, which sucks. My body is telling me I need to take care of it but I cant. How long does it take to recover from an episode like this?
Guest guest
Gee Mickie~that was some evening...yikes... You know, there is the ADA--American's with Disabilities Act-I'm not totally certain of its' parameters, but fairly sure it touches on accomodations that need to be made for employees with disabilities..SO, you should be able to use the elevator. I mean the stairs alone, when you are having a difficult time, are going to put/or could put you into a tail spin. You need to conserve energy, and use it wisely, and pace yourself with MS. Ask me if I've learned this...as I'm on the verge of my 10th pneumonia. Hey, Sharon...any advice--they are putting me on a Medrol pack, but for a pulmonary exacerbation. hugs, kate----- Original Message -----> Good Morning Everyone!> > For the most part I did ok but really struggled to stay on my > feet. > My legs were tingling all night, my feet cramped up, had muscles > tremors in my legs, and my arms and legs ached. Guest guest
Mickie, someone just told me (a few minutes ago) that much of life was a result of con sciousness, not of consequences. Cannot your internist write a certified letter asking for consideration of your real limitations, to this company, or whatever it calls itself? Love, love, n Rojas5915@... Guest guest
A question like "how long does it take to recover" is difficult to answer at this point. Sorry, to give you such a poor answer, but there is not much more we can say until you receive a diagnosis. IF you have MS (we don't yet know) and you have relapsing/remitting MS, it can take days, weeks, months to recover from an exacerbation. And, even then, with MS, things like stress and heat can make your symptoms worse or re-appear. This is why some of us refer to MS as "the MonSter." It is unpredictable and frustrating. For now, I can just say that no matter what, you will find support and understanding with this group. That is about all I can say with certainty! :-) --Mr. Dana F. Guest guest
I've only been at this job since Jan. and from what I have heard and seen, they arent really that forgiving. I know of a few employees that use the elevators but not many. They have alot of older employees there. But I see employees struggle up and down those stairs everyday. As a rule no employee is allowed to use the elevators unless it has to do with your job description. Hopefully I will get through this week and I go back to the dr on tuesday to find out my test results. I am gonna say something to my dr at that time and see what he says or does for me. Thanks for being here! God Bless!
