Guest guest
Hi, There is no emperical evidence that Vital-Stim works, but clinicians are reporting good results. I am a Legislative Councilor from Va. to ASHA & there has been a little problem with Vital-Stim saying misleading things about ASHA approving this method when, indeed, it has not. It is just too soon to endorse or not to endorse. We need evidence & published results.I would be particularly careful using Vital-Stim because of the neurological disease(s) that often accompany dysphagia(s). We wouldn't want to do harm . Guest guest
Our clinical results have been excellent - however you will really want to do your homework on reimbursement and check with your FI as the recommendations for billing your clinician will get from Vital Stim - may not jive with what you can actually get paid for. We did not do as much homework when our first clinician went for training over a year ago - and it has taken us quite a while to get billing and reimbursement straightened out. If you study up first - then you can arm your clinician with good questions. Also remember they are based out of Charlotte I think - and they will answer based on NC FI interpretations unless you query wider. Clinically for the right patients... we have advanced alot of diets and seen great results with good patient selection. vital stim Good day group I have been considering sending my speech therapists to the vital stim certification course. Is anyone currently using vital stim, and if you have, how have your results been? thank you! Zandex Healthcare Zanesville, Ohio
Guest guest
Have you seen a significant difference by using the VitalStim -- or is the difference related to increased intervention/treatment by ST? Is there data out there to support " great results " ? Guest guest
We have been using it with both peds and adults with fair results. So far we have seen more improvement in the peds than with the adults. Guest guest
Good questions - The data and " double blind research " that our Medical Director at our FI has requested has not been published as of this date - unless something has come out in the last several months that we missed. He indicates that is necessary to consider coverage as a modality. The results we are seeing are anecdotal and may be increased frequency enhanced as well. vital stim Good day group I have been considering sending my speech therapists to the vital stim certification course. Guest guest
I observed Marcy Freed's work in the late 80's in Cleveland where all of the R & D was taking place. It is amazing! Guest guest
I am aware that the Marcy's original study has flaws and is being replicated Vital Stim.
