Peggy,

I'm excited for you!! It's great to have a change of scenery...we all need it once in a while.

It sounds like you're thinking of everything. The information I found online is that the Chattanooga area is less than 1000 feet above sea level so altitude shouldn't be too much of an issue. There are towns close by though (Signal Mountain for instance) where the elevations are higher so be aware of that. Changes in elevation above sea level alter your bodies need for O2 drastically. Also the environment will be different (new kinds of trees, vegetation etc etc) and that can make your O2 needs change so just be aware of it.

Of course, bring your oximeter. I would strongly suggest having your O2 company get the portable concentrator to you at least a couple of days in advance so that you have a chance to try it out. Go for a ride with it, see how your O2 levels are when you use it, find out how long it takes to recharge the battery etc. These are things you want to find out while your still at home and can change your plan, not when you're already on the road.

Bring more tanks than you think you'll need, you can always bring them home unused but it's better to have too much than not enough.

Mostly just relax and have fun. I'm green with envy!

Hello there, I'm wondering if you have any tips for me for traveling with acar full of O2. I am getting a vacation size concentrator but will need manysmaller bottles. I'll be gone 4 days. I am not sure what the elevation isin TN. Don't know if I will need more O2 or not. I probably won't wear itfull time as I stay around 93, 94 just sitting.I'm so excited to go. I think this is just what I need right now. Thanks for any info.Love and Prayers, Peggy 9/04 ipf Florida

Peggy,

It is me, Miss Know it All..butting in.

You do know that you can call your 02 provider and they will set you up with a concentrator and all the tanks you need while you are at your destination. They bring tubing, connectors and whatever you need. I always have extra peices and parts with me in case they forget something....and it happens! Tell them if you want a water bottle, but take your own distilled water or buy some there. They don't supply that. You only need enough tanks to get you there and you can trade out while you are there. When you leave the hotel, or whrever, have them call the 02 company to pick up. I have been doing this a long time so maybe I am Miss Know it All!

p.s. when you call to set this up, get the name and ph # of the company there and ask for the name of a contact person. You can call enroute to see if everything is ready. I always ask them to bring it the day before.

Beth,

Did they put you to sleep for the esophagram?

I am so glad that you were approved for SSDI. Can you believe what you have been through in just a year? Life is unpredictable, that's for sure. You are such a brave soul. You are always in my prayers.

My swallowing is completely normal and the radiologist only saw very mild reflux and no aspiration. The cough that I have after I eat is most likely caused by a yeast infection in my esophagus. I feel reasonably confident about that especially since it's getting better since I've been on the Diflucan.> > I also received my retroactive SSDI via direct deposit in my checking account. That was a VERY pleasant surprise. I wrote a bunch of checks, paid some bills. That felt wonderful! I'm frankly amazed at how fast I received actual money. I've heard stories of waiting months for money to come after approval. I consider myself very fortunate. God knew I couldn't hold out financially much longer.> > So that's my story and I'm stickin to it. Sorry I missed the chat earlier tonight.
