Hi ,

Saw Billie's photos earlier today, what a sweetie! Our daughter was

born with a lot of hair also (blondie though). In infancy she had the Don

King look, it was pretty dramatic, stuck straight up! It seemed like everyone

was attracted to her hair, so they would rub there hands up through it, so it

would stick up even farther :) She's 14.5 mos.old, now she has bangs that are

like cow-licks(sp) & shoulder length strawberry blonde hair.

was born with a severe bilateral cleft lip & palate. Even though

it was challenging she did well with her Haberman (that's the kind of bottle

we used because of the clefts). She ate orally until she was 2 mo. old (did

fairly good with the bottle despite her clefts). But this is when we noticed

the aspirating & the poor swallow, cranial nerve involvement? She then got a

g-tube & a nissen fundoplication. She is still feed via g-tube, nil' orally!

The most important advice I can share about the feedings (or all of the time)

is to keep that mouth a happy place!! During 's feedings we dipped the

nipple (now it's via spoon, big girl) in just about anything, within reason,

lemon juice to ice cream! She can have only tethered tastes, because she

still aspirates. Does Billie aspirate or have swallowing difficulties? If you

don't know you should get that checked, it's scary when they aspirate. We are

slowly introducing tethered textures. It's great that Billie enjoys the

candycane, whatever it takes to wake up those senses & to keep the mouth

happy & hungry.
