Guest guest
you mention mycoplasma and my flag went up. in past lab test mycoplasma has been elevated... however in more recent stool tests it's been in normal range. When you talk about bacteria, parasites etc it got me thinking and I pulled his past 4 stool analysis' since Nov 07 and found that on everyone of them (testing by metametrix) it says no clinically significant amounts of "oportunistic bacteria" of which I would think would be the bad guys. The pathogenic bacteria have always been normal EXCEPT for this last test. It revealed H. pylori. She recommended a treatment with a supplement called Broccolonate, but he can't swallow the pill so I've yet to treat him. AND on every test since 07 he has ALWAYS had Parasites- especially blastocystis hominis. His DAN said she's always been able to treat it in others with VSL#3 the probiotic, but for some reason with him it's hanging around. 11-07 he tested positive for blastocystis 7-08 he tested positive for blastocystis and trichuris 12-08 he tested positive for blastocystis, cryptosporidium, enterobius vermicularis and "protozoan present; taxonomy unavailable" 4-09 he tested positive for blastocystis and "protozoan present; taxonomy unavailable" Obviously he's got parasite issues,he took medication for the 08 parasites.... Got any suggestions for getting the parasites under control? He also has yeast issues of which vary on testing from being signficantly elevated to showing none at all.... He has such moments of clarity off and on (usually in the evenings) then other times he's a hyper, jibberish, crazy ball....it's just wierd. thanks for taking the time to ponder this.. Becky Subject: Re: Some PANDAS questions- HEIDITo: mb12 valtrex Date: Saturday, August 8, 2009, 1:18 PM The kinds of symptoms one can have vary much. And even amongst professionals there is a disagreement on what are and what are not OCD symptoms. I think the only for sure way to know is to treat. When you treat, are you getting changes, either improvements or a worsening followed by improvements. Testing can be unreliable, and most have some form of bad bacteria. The treatments kill many different types of bad bacteria, so this is another plus. When you look up OCD, you will find frequent hand-washing often mentioned, but I have found that not to be very common among those with OCD. Some are clean fanatics, some sloppy. The obsessions and compulsions can be in so many different areas, like nail-biting even. Not to say that if you bite your nails, you have OCD, but some do. They bite their nails way down, keep them that way and also have other OCD symptoms to go with that one. So, the obsessions and compulsions can be in just about anything. Typically what I hear about in autism is they don't like change, they like to repeat things, and they have to have things a certain way. You can also have OCD symptoms and not have PANDAS. Of course, PANDAS is controversial, anyhow. Some say it is an auto-immune condition triggered from previously having an infection. Some feel that there is no such thing as auto-immune disorders, that there are infections and toxins the immune system is targeting that cause the immune system to react awry. What I see is that many report inflammation and allergies going away when they treat for pathogens and toxins, so this gets my vote. So, yes, there may be an auto-immune condition, but tilting the immune system back from TH2 and B-cell dominate to Th1 and t-cell dominate by ridding chronic pathogens and toxins, reportedly will result in less of an allergy reaction in the body in general. Since I believe autism is mostly a bacterial and mycoplasma problem and also parasites, I support using antibacterials. But if you use antiobiotics, make sure you also have a plan for yeast and replenishing healthy microflora. I do blame viruses as well, but they only seem to be a problem due to the bacterial and parasitic loads. I say this due to everyone testing positive for chronic viruses. But, sometimes the inflammation the viruses causes, stands in the way of the body being able to fight the bad bacteria and parasites. This is why I feel that all pathogen types need to be treated. Sorry for being so wordy. I would, if you have the ability to, persue PANDAS treatments or other antibacterial treatments, using either herbs, homeopathic or antibiotics, whatever your practitioner is familiar with. I have seen many report good gains by treating for PANDAS with antibacterials. Love and prayers, Heidi N "Would my son have to have OCD or Tics before you should rule out PANDAS? When I think of OCD behaviors I think of kids needing to wash hands over and over or turning on and off the lights etc... My son doesn't do that nor does he have Tics... But I feel like I need to rule out everything, so I'm looking at PANDAS and wondering??? ??"
