>Deedee,

Nineteen years ago when was born we learned of the

clinic. Although we lived in Oregon/Washington at the time we began

the self study course for DeafBlind infants. Unlike the Deaf " only "

program, this program encouraged communication of any type, including

sign language. At that time, we completed a self assessment of our

knowledge as well as the degree of 's vision and hearing loss

and if he had additional disabilities. We were then mailed a packet

of information to complete at our leisure. The packet included a

variety of units including communication, self-care....can't remember

the rest....But, when we completed this packet, a teacher would

review it( Meyer at the time), comment and send the next level

of information. It was great for us as we lived in remote areas of

the state and got us started with . I found it extremely

helpful! Maybe they have moved to a more Oral approach like Mike

said, but 19 years ago, it was deafblind specific.

A friend from Minnesota has a son 's age who is " just deaf " .

They attended the summer program for him many years ago and found it

very helpful...but again, there may be changes.

Chantelle,

May I comment that your ears look completely normal to me. My son, 's

ears also looked normal yet he was said to be completely deaf and Jillian

has the " CHARGE " ears and can hear fine(w/tubes)... Her CHARGE ears hears

the best and her more normal looking ear has a little less hearing. What is

your hearing like?

Chantelle,

I think you have nice looking ears! Have you had plastic surgery or are

they your " natural " ears? I love seeing pictures of CHARGERs. I also think

it is great that you are on this serve. I gives me added hope that Tyler

will do as great as you are:o)

Hi Deedee,

Just a small " two cents worth " memory from Tracey Clinic...on

's first birthday, which was a bit tough for us, she received the

most wonderful " touchy " card from Tracey. It was large print all

done in a touchy fabric and had great contrast AND it was cute and dear!

The card had been made at the clinic and touched my heart in a very

special place. Also, I did receive lots on info from them and found it

helpful. Somehow with that card I knew the people there had what Van Dyk

calls " IT " and I was grateful for that help.

Excuse my emotions at this point but I needed just that on that day long ago...

All the best with your decisions,

Jackie Kenley, San Francisco
