Guest guest
Lila, I may have missed something but don't understand why you were taking the progesterone and later the estrogen. If I missed a post, please don't feel you have to repeat it. Just wondering if you had some medical problems that prompted you to take the hormones at such a young age. Gael I would love to have comments from anyone here regarding these labs, results are not what i expected. after reading on this forum, and books by Dr. Vliet i was almost certain that i would benefit from taking Estrogen (like estrogel).I had been taking BID progesterone (in troches than cream) for the past year and a half and seems the dosage was excessive (according to my reading) and i didnt have baseline labs showing i needed it before starting. My symptoms seem to correlate very well with progesterone excess and/or estrogen difficiency.FYI I'm 36, fairly regular cycle, have my ovaries and uterus...I took the labs on day 21 of my cycle @ 8:30am. I had food around 1 or 2am the night before. (Should i have fasted for 12 hours?)I had stopped progesterone cream one month prior and no other hormones except for T3 (cynomel).**Lab Results (via serum)*******TESTOSTERONE, SERUM *46 ng/dl (range:6-82)FREE TESTOSTERONE(DIRECT) *0.5 pg/ml (range:0.0-2.2)ESTRADIOL *407.9 pg/ml (range: luteal phase 43.8-211.0)ESTRONE, SERUM *120 pg/ml (range: luteal phase 50-114)PROGESTERONE *12.9 ng/ml (range: luteal phase 1.7-27.0)Is it possible that i have high estradiol/estrone circulating in blood but is not usable or getting into the cells because of receptor damage caused by progesterone excess??I also heard that taking T3 can possibly bind some of your Estrogen. (learned this from yahoo reverse T3 group).I have no idea why progesterone would be at mid range rather than higher. I stopped the prog. cream a month earlier...though i'm still experiencing symptoms.I'm wondering if i can start very low dose of EstroGel, and judge by how i feel? or can i trust that feeling better equals good for me without labs to confirm? Would be so grateful to recieve any comments/reactions,Thank you, Lila
Guest guest
Why start estrogel when your estradiol is high? I'm wondering if these issues started when you began " treating " reverse t3. I ask that because I've been emailing back forth with a number of women who started having issues when they switched from naturethroid to synthetic t3 to " treat " reverse t3 instead of addressing weak adrenals and low ferritin. Have you had your adrenals saliva tested yet? What about ferritin, is it at least 70? If adrenals and ferritin are not 'in place', it can cause reverse t3 to increase. Reverse T3 is what excess t4 naturally turns into so it can exit the body. If there's an issue converting t4 into t3 (as in weak adrenals and low ferritin), then there will be a larger amount of 'excess' t4, which gets turned into reverse t3, so reverse t3 now looks higher. Guest guest
Thanks for your input Sam. I'm aware of the issues of Adrenals/Iron and did test these. My iron may be an issue....see labs and notes below. And the issues i'm concerned with did start before i started on Cynomel. In fact i delayed beginning treatment because of these strange new issues, i wondered if my adrenal cortisol changed from high to low, and retested before starting Cynomel (but testing did not show AF). But on the other hand i also have not noticed improvement yet on cynomel. I've been raising slowly for 13 weeks and now @ 100mcg. i have not 'cleared' yet so i may see improvement when i do. RECENT LABS: Nov'10 (i was told that i should not supplement anymore iron with these labs, only eat iron rich foods and that the high ferritin indicates inflammation) IRON BIND CAP. (TIBC) *243* (range:250-450) UIBC *195* (range:150-375) IRON, SERUM *48* (range:35-155) IRON SATURATION *20%* (range:15-55) FERRITIN *123* (range:13-150) July'10 (thought i only needed to worry about ferritin, should have done all iron panel) FERRITIN *59* (range:13-150) July '10 CORTISOL SALIVA Morning *10.3 (3.7-9.5) Noon *7.4 (1.2-3.0) Evening *3.1 (0.6-1.9) Night *.5 (0.4-1.0) May'10 IRON BIND CAP. (TIBC) *285* (range:250-450) UIBC *229* (range:150-375) IRON, SERUM *56* (range:35-155) IRON SATURATION *20%* (range:15-55) FERRITIN *34* (range:13-150) I'm not sure if these new iron labs point to something going wrong or what, i was supplementing based on how long it took me to get from 34 to 59 and started Cynomel at where i estimated i would be at around 80 (ferritin). I prob. should have done more labs instead of estimating :/ What do u think after seeing these labs? Something i think is significant: I have ALWAYS felt worse during luteal phase (my adhd, depression, tiredness, anxiety, etc.), this pms issue was gradually getting worse as i've gotten older......this past year for the first time in my life i feel the worst after menstruation (follicle phase), pms is now the easier time. something changed. Sorry for the wordy post, very grateful for your opinion! Guest guest
Yea, it does look like there's " something " going on, so I have some questions: Which lab did the saliva cortisol? Was it Diagnos-techs? How long where you off iron supplements when you last tested ferritin, or were you still taking them? Have you been charting your temperature? www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/temperature Sam ===== > Thanks for your input Sam. > > I'm aware of the issues of Adrenals/Iron and did test these. Guest guest
Sam, Saliva was ZRT. I was off iron a few weeks before testing. I have not done a very good job of tracking my temps at consistent times...but here is what i have. all temps are under arm (mercury therm.) Nov. 7, 10:00am: 97.1 (waking) Nov. 6, 11:00am: 97.3 4:30pm: 98.9, pulse 109, bp 62/111 Nov. 5, 5:00pm: 97.4 11:30pm: 98.1 Nov.4, 5:30pm: 99, pulse 110, bp 111/59 Nov. 3, 3:30pm: 98.7, pulse 116, bp 109/67 Nov. 2, 8:00am: 98.2 (waking) 4:00pm: 98.7, pulse 95, bp 103/61 Nov. 1, 2:00pm: 98.3, pulse 102 Oct. 31, 11:00am: 98.2, pulse 96, bp 109/73 Also, in case it matters, Nov. 3rd is day 21 of my cycle.maybe my cycle accounts for the temp raises? Guest guest
Gael, An Osteopathic Dr. prescribed the progesterone for my pms complaints... i never took anything before that except Yaz birth control pills (for 8 months). I guess she felt my symptoms warranted it. no specific medical problem though. I have never taken any estrogen other than the type in the Yaz. Was considering taking the EstroGel because I thought it may help me feel better. Guest guest
Lila- I have been on that iron/ferritin roller coaster for months now (have had 3 Venofer IVs this year- last one 3 weeks ago today)... Just looking at your ferritin from May to July, ferritin rose from 34 to 59; that is a 25 point difference. Then from July (59) to November 123; that is a 64 point difference. The only time my ferritin rose that much was with iron infusions.. What do you take? Do you have heavy periods? Recent surgeries? Food allergies? What I see is possible inflammation... I have this problem :-( I am still very unsure of this " T3 " only protocol... Been doing it for a while and still don't feel 'great'... Really looking at desicated thyroid meds once I find out what my iron/ferritin labs look like in December! Hormones... Wow. I am still trying to find someone who knows what they are doing... I know I do not do well with progesterone and would rather use estrogen... > > > > Why start estrogel when your estradiol is high? > > > > I'm wondering if these issues started when you began " treating " reverse t3. > > I ask that because I've been emailing back forth with a number of women > > who started having issues when they switched from naturethroid to > > synthetic t3 to " treat " reverse t3 instead of addressing weak adrenals and > > low ferritin. > > > > Have you had your adrenals saliva tested yet? > > What about ferritin, is it at least 70? > > If adrenals and ferritin are not 'in place', it can cause reverse t3 to > > increase. Guest guest
Lori I used Bluebonnet Iron, i worked up to about 200mg or so. I do not have heavy periods, in fact they have gotten a bit light and only lasting 2 or 3 days. not sure about allergies. but i did have dental infections that made me sick this summer. I took antibiotics for the infections and do feel better....not sure if this is the inflammation or it's caused by something else.. I did notice that i didn't feel much different when i supplemented with iron, other ppl felt improvement..so maybe the inflammation explains that. How long have u been on the T3? Guest guest
I, too, don't 'feel different' with iron pills... I take the same ones you take... I have never had my ferritin level jump like that unless I had inflammation (had gall bladder surgery and a uterine ablation). I have been on T3 since February (maybe?? I can't remember right now :-( I think someone already asked you (maybe not?) but did you take any iron at least 5 days prior?? > > > > Lila- I have been on that iron/ferritin roller coaster for months now > > (have had 3 Venofer IVs this year- last one 3 weeks ago today)... > > > > Just looking at your ferritin from May to July, ferritin rose from 34 to 59; that is a 25 point difference. Guest guest
Looks like your ferritin increased pretty fast, and the only 2 ways I can think of (altho there's likely more), that goes along with those other iron results would be taking an iron supplement too close to test time (or something 'with' iron in it) or inflammation and/or infection. Your temperature looks like it goes up and down a bit. But I was actually asking if you've been tracking temp via the temp chart mentioned in the article here: http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/temperature It's Dr Rind's metabolic temperature graph, and here is the address: http://www.drrind.com/therapies/metabolic-temperature-graph Charting temps can sometimes be more reliable than blood/serum/saliva testing. Saliva cortisol labs. Inflammation and/or infection can cause cortisol to rise, but that wouldn't explain your almost (but not quite) normal morning and late night cortisol. Were you taking any adrenal glandulars, licorice, echinacea, coffee, tea, soda, pregnenolone, amino acids, DHEA, etc? Or maybe it might be something else: After re-reading the info on YAZ from rxlist.com, maybe this stuff is from Yaz after-effects. Here's what it said: " Sex-hormone-binding globulins are increased and result in elevated levels of total circulating sex steroids and corticoids " ...
