Guest guest
Hi all, I am not sure what I am expecting with this post but I feel I have to do something. My 6 year old son has ASD. When he was first diagnosed, I went through WHY DID THIS HAPPEN. I went through the guilt of anything I might have done to cause it. I decided this was not helping anyone and forgot about the WHY and focused on HOW to treat him. I have tried various therapies, supplements, protocols, etc with good success. My son has made steady gains throughout the years and I am happy with his progress. But that nagging feeling of WHY has never left me. I finally decided to get a copy of my son's medical records to do a little research. What I found shocked me. I realized the answer was right in front of me and I missed it. For the first year of my son's life, every Dr. visit was positive. No concerns were ever noted in my son. When my son was 12 months old (12/17/03), we went to the Dr. for an ear infection. It is documented that he had a fever of 101, diarhea, etc. It was noted that I had given tylenol for fever. They put him on a 2 week course of antibiotics and sent him on his way. On 1/6/04, he received a flu shot (my stupidity!) at the same Dr.'s office. Ten days later, he had his 1 year well child visit. It is noted that he was meeting his milestones (pointing, 3-6 words, etc) and that he was a happy baby NO CONCERNS. He also received 8 vaccines that day (1 being the MMR). The kicker comes when I looked at his 15 month well child visit. In only 3 MONTHS, It is like we are talking about a different kid. The records note 'poor eye contact' 'very active' 'concerned about communication skills', etc. The Dr. had us wait another 3 months and asked us to come back. At 19 months, she referred us for early intervention. He was originally diagnosed with just an expressive language disorder. At 3, he was diagnosed with Autism When I look back at pictures, I SEE the change. He even looks like he becomes bloated in his second year of life. WHY did I not see this before? OR am I just looking back and trying to find things? My point of this long, lengthy post is, rather than putting together a class action suit or one off suits, could we not put together a case study of all of these stories that are similar to my son and present this information to the Government, CDC, Dr. offices, etc to try to CHANGE the current standards? I don't want money, I want CHANGE! In my opinion, we have to reform: - The number of shots a child gets at one time - Purifying the vaccines as much as possible - TRAINING Dr. offices and nurses to do a better job of screening for illness (past, present or even future). There is a rapid WBC test to check for elevated WBCs, WHY isn't this used??? I may have had too much coffee this morning but couldn't we put together a report or something that includes all of these stories and go to our elected officials to do something? I would be willing to assist in this document. So my questions to you is: - Can this be done - Has this been done - Are you interested - How do we get started - Am I crazy (this one doesn't really require an answer!) Please let me know your thoughts!
