Bel,

I really feel sorry for your mom. She has been unable

to see you for who you really are, a young woman who

among many wonderful things, happens to have a

disability as opposed to a disabled young woman which

is how she sees you.

Instead of getting angry and arguing with her, maybe

next time let her know how sad she makes you feel that

she is unable to see the whole you. Perhaps suggest

joint counseling so that she can get to see the

positive things about you. Let her know that her

opinion is important to you so it's important to you

she tries to alter her opinion of you.

Bel, you are an inspiration. I don't feel sorry for

you, I look up to you. I feel sorry for your mother.

She seems like a sad person to me, who's missed the

best of what her daughter has to offer to the world.

Maybe next time your mom says your friends feel sorry

for you, let her know the only person who feels sorry

for you is her.

Jeanne
