To this I respond a resounding YES, YES, YES! I firmly believe that my daughter has such severe sensory integration issues (which resulted in motor apraxia, auditory and visual processing problems, etc.) is because of all of her surgeries/procedures, etc. She had 9 surgeries her first year and all but 3 of them were emergency surgeries. That meant that the docs were sticking her for hours upon hours trying to find a vein while she was fully awake and screaming. Recuperating from open heart surgery twice, each time she had a nurse one day who refused to ask the doctor to give her Tylenol for her fussiness likely due to pain. Tylenol. At an age when most babies would be getting tylenol for an ear infection or teething and my kid couldn't have it for open heart surgery--or for appendicitis either. Makes me so MAD! It's about time someone comes out with a paper on this. Maybe eventually CHP will take pain in children seriously.
