Guest guest
Last May there was a posting from Newton, I believe, regarding a random control study on anodyne therapy and its effects on returning sensation that he had teamed with the University of Tennessee for. Any updated information? Thank you. Guest guest
This new modality seems to be effective for a variety of problems including diabetic neuropathy, proprioceptive disorders, sensory deficits etc. Has anybody discovered how to bill/code for this item in our treatment plan. Thank you for your help. Norton, PT
Guest guest
Have you heard about the medical study done by Dr. Weintraub on the use of magnetic insoles for diabetic neuropathy? 300 patients in a nationwide double blind study at major medical centers across the country participated. It proved that there was significant improvement with pain relief, sensation return and ability to sweat. There is lasting benefit as long as the patient wears the insoles inside his shoe. If you would like a copy of the study I can send it email. The unit I have has been scientifically researched and is a class II medical device. It is LED infrared. Guest guest
I think they have their own vendor, but I cannot remember who it is. The clinical units (6 or 8 channels) are around $6,000 and the reimbursement is poor--something like 25/session. You would have to see 240 patients who need this type of treatment to recoup your money. The research shows that it is very effective with stubborn wounds and with restoring to a degree sensation in the lower extremities. The research is promising for non-union fracture healing. However...Beware! The rep will try to convince you that it is what you do during the rest of the visit that will pay for the unit--like ther ex and balance training, etc.--but those are other skills you are charging for that don't necessarily have anything to do with the cost of that unit. My advice is that unless you are getting or can get a rather large increase in patients " because " you have the unit, don't do it. Do your research and take the advice of those who have found less expensive units. I have seen many of these gathering dust at several clinics when I did temp work. For the home units, the patient with stubborn wounds or diabetic or other neuropathy will get great results, but they have to use the unit for life--better than losing a toe, foot, or leg.
