Re: Happy New Year and Thanks

I want to wish you all a bright, hopeful new year, in or out of afib, and

just thank you all for being here. When I logged on to post my previous

messages, I was feeling so depressed about what seems to be an inauspicious

beginning to the new year for me. After a quiet, nonalcoholic New Year's Eve

with some friends, I had a sleepless night due to extreme stomach problems,

which don't seem to be the norm after a " normal " colonoscopy. I did dare to

eat a small amount of spaghetti, my favorite food which is usually off my

list. I figured since I was in afib anyway, it wouldn't matter. Apparently

that was a faulty conclusion because I was awake all night with palpitations

and stomach cramps. Talk about triggers!

Anyway, as I said, I was feeling so depressed about my current long afib

session (not my longest ever, though) when I logged on to read new messages,

but now I feel ever so much better after reading some good advice from Victor

and sounding off to you sympathetic and understanding people. Also, getting

concerned over possibly causing problems for Walt with my careless,

unthinking reference to my unscientific " poll " brought me out of my petty

little concerns about myself. Depression problems are not common for me, and

I try to avoid depression because I think it worsens afib. You have helped

me win my battle with depression today just by being there with your kind,

sympathetic presence.

Thanks to all.

Hi ,

I continue to enjoy your considered responses. The choice of what to say and

what not to say is difficult but I think you have it spot on! Given the

statistical bias of such a group (most of us are having problems) then it's

almost inevitable that there will also be a bias towards negative results

with medication. As long as we keep this in mind and think of the 5 million

AFers out there who haven't joined this group then I think we should share

the information we find.

Although sotalol turned me into a walking zombie I think it is still the

first drug my cardiologist tries on most patients because of it's high

success rate. If I were in his shoes I think I would have to do the same

thing - you can cure some of the people some of the time!

Hope you don't break your record !

all the best for the new year

Thanks, . I haven't broken my ten day record yet, thank God! When I

was in afib for ten days last summer, it seemed an unbelievably long time to

me, and that ten day record has become a major reference point for me,

illogical as that may seem. Rational or not, I have this mindset that leads

me to think that if I do surpass that ten day record, this will be a clear

indication that my afib is worsening. I'm fighting that attitude, reminding

myself that since the ten day afib run, I have had many 16 hour, 24, hour,

and 48 hour afib episodes. I think a prime consideration that one must never

lose sight of is the unpredictability of afib.

I wish you all the best in the New Year, too!
