Guest guest
Hello and Happy New Year to everyone here. I'm 27 years old and was diagnosed with afib 2.5 years ago. Since then, I've had 6 more episodes of irregular heartbeats lasting from 15 minutes to 45 minutes. I'm fit, active and otherwise healthy but have been worrying as of late because last night, I had my second episode in 6 weeks after 18 months with no problems. This hasn't really affected my life so far but I'm feeling anxious about what could be around the corner. ....Jess
Guest guest
Thanks for the welcome... I was diagnosed via ECG during my first episode which was by far my worst. My pulse rate was over 200. Since then, I have never been able to get to the hospital before converting to a normal rhythm. I'd really like to get another reading just to confirm that my more recent episodes are actually afib. Last night my pulse rate never broke 60 bpm and it felt like my heart was really trying to hang on to a normal rhythm, but would lose it every 6 or 7 beats. The whole thing lasted 45 minutes but slowly started to improve after 20 minutes or so. > Welcome, and thanks for writing! > > How were you diagnosed? Jess, I suspect you are " just " having ectopics in those short events, that is stuff which feels in the pulse like a skipped beat, maybe not real afib. Just my guess... Guest guest
---Dear Bruce, Thanks for the gret letter! That certainly cheered me up as I was just recently diagnosed with afib, even thoigh now I think I have suffered from it , just didnt know what it was and never went to the doctor. I am depressed about the entire situation and my feelings are very similiar to what yours where. Thanks again. Charlie
Guest guest
Good Morning Bruce: What a terrific contribution to our Board; especially to our members who have been newly diagnosed. Thank you so much for sharing! A warm welcome to you and healthy and happy 2002! Ellen 68 NC **************** > I am also new to this group but not to AF. I was diagnosed 16 years ago when I was 28. Thinking back on it I'm sure I had it a few years earlier. It started out with a giant one time thump that woke me up in the middle of the night when I was in college. (big snip) Having had the benefit of time I can now look back on it and wished I hadn't wasted so much time worring about it. You've joined a great group to ask questions and get info from.
