Welcome, Jess! Don't worry, because what may be around the corner could be

more of the same type of experience you've had so far, which isn't all that

bad compared with some heart conditions one could have. Afib is

unpredictable, frustrating, and at times frightening; but it won't kill you!

I've had afib for nearly nineteen years, starting out as you are with

sessions maybe 2 or 3 times a year. The frequency stayed that way for a long

time and recently increased. This may happen to you, also, or with the

capriciousness of afib it may disappear for a long time or altogether. At

any rate there are so many of us who have survived afib for a long time, and

you should be encouraged by the fact that afib is a nuisance but not a

killer. With the right medication, if you need medication, you should be

able to lead a normal life. I have an older brother who has been in afib for

at least 20-30 years, and he leads a very normal, active life with the right

medication. I didn't even need any medication the first eight years, but now

take beta and calcium channel blockers. Anyway, the important thing is to

try not to worry and to continue to seek the right medical treatment.

Welcome, and thanks for writing!

How were you diagnosed? Did they get an ECG on you, or was it captured

on a Holter monitor?

New to the group

Hello and Happy New Year to everyone here.

I'm 27 years old and was diagnosed with afib 2.5 years ago. Since

then, I've had 6 more episodes of irregular heartbeats lasting from

15 minutes to 45 minutes. I'm fit, active and otherwise healthy but

have been worrying as of late because last night, I had my second

episode in 6 weeks after 18 months with no problems. This hasn't

really affected my life so far but I'm feeling anxious about what

could be around the corner.
