Sher, My Dr. says my dogs are fine.. just NO birds. I had a mini doxie 3 lbs. chocolate her name was Cocoa. Enjoy your pets. mine keep me moving. Peggy

Here seems to be another controversy...are pets not good for our condition or are they ok? Most of have pets...I have a fat cat whose box I clean every day and we have Lola...our sweet mini-doxie.

I'm under the impression pets and/or cat boxes are not harmful.

Thank you (HP). I was afraid of that. I guess I kind of knew the first pulmo saying " just stay away from standing water and you'll be OK " wasn't going to do the trick. I think I go into a general state of denial everyonce in a while and space out until reminded.

I'm sorry to hear that you are going through the same thing. I've never lived with birds. I had a friend who had a cockatiel (I hear many Birdlovers w/ HP still miss their birds dearly - do you?) , but was never symptomatic while around it.

I have lived in areas that have ravens verus pigeons. I've lived with cats and dogs throughout my life, but again, not while symptomatic. My biggest issue seems to be mold. Almost 6 years after moving from a moldy apartment I am still symptomatic.....nutz

Hi Armede. I also have HP. I found that I had to move from my home of 22yrs into an apartment. this was to get away from any mold that might be there. I also lived in "town" small, but large population of pigeons. A lot of HP is caused by pet birds, which mine was. I also had to get rid of my cats and dogs along with my 3 cockatiels.There are 2 types of HP, one that just shows up, is treated and then goes away. The other is chronic and must be treated daily. I take Advair daily which is an inhaled steroid. HP can also cause COPD. You have to take steroids for COPD as well. As long as you are having symptons of HP you will continue to have decrease in breathing. This also happens with COPD. HP is aggrevated by allergies , as well as ashtma, both can and do cause scarring in the lungs. Don't know if this info helps, but this is what I live with. HP 6/06 TN armede

Hi Joyce, HP is hypersentisitivity pneumonitis. It is a severe allergic reaction to mold,birds or a large number of things in a home or work place. Most of the time it is hard to determine what causes the first reaction. The problem is that once you have a reaction, it takes very little for you to react to anything else. also cases of pneumonia, ashtma broncitis etc. will continue to cause reactions in the future. Yes I still miss my birds, they would wake the house up at nite when I came home "talking" to me. I also lived with an assortment of animals all my life. Me too! I've been wanting to be back in a four legged household for months - now I am and I love it. No way am I changing that. I just turn up the air purifyer. LOL!!!

Yes, because of the bronchiectasis, they really bother me. Also, I take immune suppressants which makes me very susceptable to all kinds of bacteria. So, no pets for me.
