Guest guest
Hello everyone! I wanted an opinion on the veracity of Whole Foods Market's claim of being 100% Organic.Much have been said and little have I read about the subject but in reality if you listen to groups that advocate that they are truthful then it convinces you that they're real, on the other hand you go to blogs and forums of people that say the contrary and their arguments also make sense, but the core of the issue I believe it lays on the wholesomeness of the products they distribute....is it real that what they sell is organic? In other words, is their meat poultry and fish really free of antibiotic and hormones? Is their produce really free of pesticides and does not come from GMO facilities or growers? It is known that FDA and USDA are under criticism and scrutiny from groups that believe that they are indeed backed up by lobbyist and care more about the pharm companies than the general public's health but would they be so evil that they would certify something that is not? Please I would love to hear your opinion in this regard.....have you heard anything, have you investigated more than I have....We are about to make the move and make a big economic effort to buy from this chain but we will love to hear from you since there's always a great deal of info in this forum that is always beneficial. I would hate to pay more and get the same crap that you get at regular supermarkets. THIS IS WHAT I HAVE READ OR FOUND OUT ABOUT IT.... 1.- Apparently, WFM buys mainly from a few growers located in CA....no such thing as helping the local grower, and it makes sense....in NJ you cannot buy tomatoes from your local grower in December, you have to bring'em from Costa Rica or South Florida...I live in South FL, I don't think anybody is organic down here....trust me, I know! Tomato growers are 1 hour away from where I live. 2.- On a recent visit to WFM, my husband asked the butcher how do we know that their meat was really organic, he did not answer the question he just looked at us and said in Spanish..."don't worry, it makes you feel good"...what kind of answer is that??? 3.- Labels that say 100% Organic get "an USDA seal of approval" ... then you move down the line to simply ORGANIC which means that is 95% made with Organic Ingredients, then "MADE WITH ORGANIC INGREDIENTS" which is about 75% organic and then the "NATURAL" which does not mean anything at all, NATURAL is bluntly used and abused to mislead. 4.- "Cage Free" does not mean hormone free....it just means that the chicken has been flying in a room not bigger than a guest bathroom but has never seen the sunlight in his life! A bigger cage basically! See where all the confusion and the lack of trust comes from? Please, for those who know more and want to add something, please do! THANK YOU!!!
