Guest guest
Hi Everyone It seems like months since i last wrote with updates of Mom, looking after her is a full time job as you all know, so time is of the essence. My thoughts and condolences go out to all those affected with LO stricken with this horrible disease. Sometimes i feel i had the disease licked in understanding it and then the next day something new came up Mom was experiencing that totally blew me away ! I watched my inlaws pass away a few years ago, it was heart wrenching watching them pass, but being able to speak to them and knowing they understood was a blessing. This disease is devastating as the body declines with the brain, both are going at the same time. Mom surpassed the 3 months the doctors gave her in Sept. She is doing well and we believe we have found the routine to her medications keeping her safe and comfortable. She is on Aricept, Seroquel and Lorazepam(at night) along with Arthrotec. She is sleeping the nights now from about 9:30pm right through without incidence to 8am ! Staying awake with the occassional cat nap through the day. 90% of the time her eyes are closed but she is coherent and listen to things going on around her. Her appetite is good some days, she has the Lewy lean, and her walking can be really good somedays and non existing the next. Her left hand has some numbness due to the minor strokes she took back in Sept. So she sits for hours playing with her fingers wondering where she can put them. Trying to take them off, asking for help to have them removed. Her hullicinations still exist, she talks constantly about babies and death. She rocks in her chair, and when she speaks, she is so quiet you can barely hear her. There are times she panics and yells that " shes forgotten to get the baby " or " i missed my church session " She waits for the bus to pull up to greet her mother and father, thinking she's still back in Scotland talking about the bus routes and streets she remembers. Mom has been taken off acute/pallitive care by CCAC when she first arrived at my house 5 months ago. Her heart is strong, her lungs are clear, and for the first time in 40 years she is no longer needing her BP medications. 120/80 is normally her reading. Mom celebrated her 73rd birthday yesterday (Mar2) My sister Maureen has done several wonderful renovations on her home,(installed a bathtub) and moved all Mom and Dads belongings onto the main floor. Mom and Dad have moved back in to their own home, with Maureen in Barrie. It was a very happy time for me yesterday watching my Mom walk down my front stairs, down our pathway to the car, almost with no assistance, she hopped in I hugged her told her I love her and she looked at me and said.. " You'll be alright without us wont you " I had some of the most instense mixed emotions I've ever felt in my life, saying Good-bye to my Mom as she venture back to her own home, happy we helped her live longer than expected but sad that I wasn't going to be waking up to her sweet face every morning ! I love you Mom ! Thanks for listening ! Hugs to all Some pictures have been updated in our album
