Today my Apria man said that he was limited now as to how many tanks he could leave here each delivery.

My Praxair man said that he can leave me 10, 'E' size tanks, but can come back the very next day and get my empties and leave more filled tanks. There is NO one time delivery, he will come everyday if necessary. I get 2 hrs. on one 'E' tank set at 6L

There was talk of the legislature changing something, and we would be responsible for some out of pocket money. But the majority of Repubicans has changes, therefore most feel that the Bill will change, too. No matter, its another challenge to the elderly and the ill.

Ginger,

This is what I understand from what I have read: Beginning in 2007, Medicare will require Home Oxygen providers to sign over concentrators, etc. to the patient at the end of 36 months. It then becomes the responsibility of the patient to maintain and replace the concentrator. Over the 10 years that I have been off and on 02, I have traded out at least 6 concentrators because of malfunction. I have also had malfunction in the middle of the night and on weekends. Who would you call when you own the thing! The powers that be make this sound like a good thing for the patient, but you can bet it will not be!

Everything that Medicare does, private insurance follows suit. So, this is going to be everyone's delimna.

I thought maybe I would go to the home fill system and buy some extra tanks. Well, I checked the price and each tank (which comes with it's own regulator) costs over $500 with shipping included. Yikes! I don't use the E tanks often because they are so big and heavy. I guess my life is about to change. I use 4-5 liters and the smaller tanks last almost 2 hours. I could get liquid, but no back up. And I am so bad at filling the things. Everytime I would have a doc appointment or something important....FREEZE UP! I went back to tanks.

I haven't called my 02 company yet, but I will and the insurance company. This limit thing is for the birds. I asked him what would happen if I ran out before time for a delivery and he said I would have to wait until the next delivery date. I wonder how insurance would like it if everytime I get out and get stuck without 02, I would check in at the emergency room!

Aaaargh!!

Joyce,

This oxygen business makes me so completely nuts....to begin with, to have O2 come under the heading of durable medical "equipment" is beyond absurd. Is this because it's delivered to our bodies via a machine of some type, like a concentrator or a tank with a regulator?? By that theory insulin should be considered equipment too then as it's delivered via a syringe or a pump. Oxygen is medication and that's how it should be looked at but... well just call me Don Quixote... always tilting at windmills. Sigh.

By the way you can buy plain old empty tanks on the ultranebs.com website for around $70. That's just the tanks, no regulator or conserver. I'm leaning towards a homefill system at some point but have to wait to see what happens with my disability.

All of you people who have home fill.....do the tanks have the regulator built into each tank. That is the way it looks from pictures.

The way I understand it, Invacare's homefill system uses the expensive tanks with the built in regulators. Chad's Total O2 system uses regular tanks and they supply a "Sequoia" conserver and one empty aluminum tank with the system. You can then purchase as many additional empties as you want.

That's how the gentleman at Ultranebs explained it to me.

the helios has a built in regulator. The large tank storing liquid

o2 does not have a regulator.

Yes, Beth....these tanks are $200.....bad, but not as bad as $500. > > >> > > > > > In a message dated 12/7/2006 4:06:34 P.M. Joyce,

Here's the link to the tanks that the guy at Ultranebs said will work with the Chad Total O2 system. http://www.portablenebs.com/oxygenproducts.htm

The D tanks run $65 plus shipping of course. This is all assuming that he gave me correct information. $500 or even $200 for empty tanks is completely outrageous and would make the whole enterprise out of the question for me.

I don't personally know anyone who uses Chad's system. My sister-in-law has contacts at Chad corporate. I think I'm going to ask her to check into this for me.

this is Sher....I HAD the home fill system. I liked it. Fill a tank when empty and mine did have a regulator on each tank. Lasted about 4-5 hrs on 2L.

Two tanks came with and I got a third tank when I was contemplating a trip. For my o2 needs...they were met very nicely with the home fill.

I have no oxygen in the house at the moment. Can you imagine???

I became so fed up with Apria that I changed from HealthNet to Regence just to get away from Apria. So I requested they come get everything except the cpap machine.

I feel so much better since I've used the cpap that my sob has decreased noticeably!

In fact, I went mall shopping yesterday with both my daughters and paused a bit (but hell's bells, I'm nearly 70 and I can't keep up with those kids!) but I noticed only a little sob all day. We sat and talked for 2 hrs at time I know that helped. But I felt good when I got home.

Have a new workup scheduled on the 12th.

ANYWAY....hope my experience with the home fill helped. I think has it as well.

Love to all today. Sher ipf 5-06
