Hi ,

your suggestions make a lot of sense, I will work on it.

I seem to remember that you mentioned in one of your messages that

you are taking Cardizem. That is also one of my medications, I take

300 mg, in addition to Coumadin, Altace, and Lanoxin (Altace &

Lanoxin in small dosages). This is now my second month on these

medications, how long does it take before they show their full

effectiveness. Is this as good as it gets?

What I experience so far is a more normal pulse between 70 and 80 and

less irregularity (but nevertheless still irregular- most or all of

the time). I am also carefully adding new vitamins and I know they

work more slowly.

> It's probably a good idea not only to keep a diary of medications

and supplements, but also of afib episodes. Taking it a step

further, it's good to keep a list of your medications in your wallet,

or even to wear a medical bracelet, especially if you take Coumadin.

My afib was discovered during a routine EKG. I was fairly symptom

free at the time. The cardiologist put me on digoxin and atenolol.

The symptoms worsened and my dosages were increased. I requested that

my liver enzymes be checked over that three year period (not the

doc). I suggested that the meds were making me worse to no avail. I

weaned myself off the dig and felt much better, not good but better.

With the help of my GP I found an EP who kept me on the atenolol and

started me on flecainide. He told me if the flecainide controlled my

afib, an RF ablation would eliminate my a flutter that accompanied

the afib. Two ablations later there were no positive results and the

flecainide was causing bad side effects with my vision. Then my afib

seemed to worsen. I asked to be taken off the flecainide and started

feeling " less worse " during afib episodes.

Thanks to what I learned on Vicky's Vagal Port I weaned myself off

the atenolol. Again I feel much better and think I'm understanding my

afib better: it's a mixed variety. No doctor has ever mentioned the

word " vagal " to me but I will be discussing it next week with a new

EP (who was a little too quick -1st visit- to suggest a pulmonary

ablation. She said new meds and procedures are being developed all

the time and I need to " jump in " !). I've been off atenolol for about

5 months and have taken it twice to bring down a rapid heartbeat and

once to head off a stressful situation I knew was leading to a bad

afib session. I'm experimenting with different herbal supplements I

read about to reduce inflamation in the body to see if any of those

(boswellia, bromelain, turmeric, quercetin, ginger root,

sarsaparilla) help me. I'll let everyone know in 4 or so months.

(That's my version of " jumping in " .) -

How much Atenolol did you take to bring you down from an Afib attack?
