What does a sudden craving mean with ASD?

My son has started craving black pepper (as in peppercorns, not spicy peppers).

Does this sudden change indicate some healing process going on? Or does it

signal something else, like a deficiency?

He, like most ASD children, is extremely picky with what he eats, so I wonder if

it's a breakthrough.

Hm,,

I don;t see how craving black pepercorns would be a breakthrough. May bey ou see other signs of imporvement you forgot to mention. If you are familiar with the Ayurvedic Doshas, I would sayou your son is Pitta, they are big on spicy hot, butthat is indicator that his dosha is out of balance. YOu can peak in You Tube or goggle Doshas and find out who to balance his diet or environment, to help equilibrate the dosha.

I would also suspect that he is low of Vit D, or IRON, OR Manganese- have you done any testing to find out how are his minerals nad vit? OR HE IS LOW on production of hydrochloric acid? Dr Klinghardt strongly recomends addition of hydrochloric to most of his patients and we have seen some great results.

Read carefully and observe if your child is demostrationg any of the symptoms for which black peper has remeditory effect.

HEr eis some info,

Health Benefits

Improve Digestion and Promote Intestinal Health

Black pepper (Piper nigrum)stimulates the taste buds in such a way that an alert is sent to to the stomach to increase hydrochloric acid secretion, thereby improving digestion. Hydrochloric acid is necessary for the digestion of proteins and other food components in the stomach. When the body's production of hydrochloric acid is insufficient, food may sit in the stomach for an extended period of time, leading to heartburn or indigestion, or it may pass into the intestines, where it can be used as a food source for unfriendly gut bacteria, whose activities produce gas, irritation, and/or diarrhea or constipation.

Black pepper has long been recognized as a carminitive, (a substance that helps prevent the formation of intestinal gas), a property likely due to its beneficial effect of stimulating hydrochloric acid production. In addition, black pepper has diaphoretic (promotes sweating), and diuretic (promotes urination) properties.

Black pepper has demonstrated impressive antioxidant and antibacterial effects--yet another way in which this wonderful seasoning promotes the health of the digestive tract. And not only does black pepper help you derive the most benefit from your food, the outer layer of the peppercorn stimulates the breakdown of fat cells, keeping you slim while giving you energy to burn.

Thanks for sharing, Heidi. I would be thrilled if my son started eating fruit

(he loved it until about age 3) and he hasn't eaten any since (he's now 10). He

won't even drink it in a smoothie.
