Guest guest
What a fun idea! How about: Gift certificates to clothing stores that she likes -- and will enjoy shopping in, as she loses weight. Exercise equipment and clothing Massage certificate, for those stressful times post-op, when she's finding transitions difficult to manage Manicure and pedicure certificates, because we all should be treating ourself to girlish pleasures Low carb, high protein cookbooks Looks like she'll have much to celebrate on this birthday, and also on her upcoming " re-birthday " ! Guest guest
> > Looks like she'll have much to celebrate on this birthday She is a great person. She has battled her weight (like many of us) for a lifetime. She has been over 500 lbs and got down under 450 so she could get MRIed to have her lungs checked. She has severe rheumatoid arthritis and that may have effected her lungs. To have the surgery, she'll have to be off her rheumatoid drugs for at least 3 months prior which may put her in a wheelchair for a while. Think she is at 425 or so now. She figures she'll keep losing between now and July which should make things all around easier. Thanks for the idea! Kathy

Guest guest
perhaps the tupperware shaker for shakes on the go... a journal...nice quality bound...one that will last, so on those days when she needs to 'get stuff off her chest' she can write it down in a book deserving of her innermost thoughts... jb-bb Kathy wrote: to have post-op? A coworker friend hopes our insurance will cover bariatric surgery starting in July and her birthday is upcoming and she wants to tell her family things to get her that she'll need later. I recommended the Braun Stick Mixer/Chopper (was the bomb for pureeing foods) among other things. Anyone care to share what else was helpful to them? Guest guest
For a newly post op person... 1) a library card with someone to get what she likes OR a few books that she'll want to read 2) a Blockbuster or Netflix.com subscription. You can pay month by month and that way if she's into movies, she can get her fix without ever leaving the house 3) Small plastic containers to put her food in 4) A nice stock of broths, light soups and such for eating. Sugar free jellos, puddings--stuff that can be put in the fridge as needed > > to have post-op? > > A coworker friend hopes our insurance will cover bariatric surgery > starting in July and her birthday is upcoming and she wants to tell > her family things to get her that she'll need later. > > I recommended the Braun Stick Mixer/Chopper (was the bomb for > pureeing foods) among other things. > > Anyone care to share what else was helpful to them? > > Thanks, > > Kathy
Guest guest
2 oz Ramekins. These were my dishes the first weeks post-op. I know you can get them in plastic in a bag of 500 at either Sam's or Costco's. I got mine at -Sonoma - they are china, and I use them a lot even at 8 months. I use them to measure and bake sugar-free custard, for ex. They are great. Hugs,
Guest guest
Oh, have her sample protein powders/drinks now. Then she will get an idea of what she will want after surgery and not have to hassle with finding a drink while she is recuperating. Guest guest
Lots of bottled water SF jello SF ice pops (think SF Philly Swirls) Shaker cup for protein shakes one ounce calibrated shot glass. This was great. I would make a protein shake and then drink it one ounce every 15 minutes using this shot glass Baby plate and fork and spoon Books, DVD's for those first few days in bed heating pad for abdominal pain post surgery at home Body pillow to hug for a stomach sleeper, which is a non-no post surgery Magic Bullet blender to make non foamy protein shakes (think NO GAS PAIN!) They have some models at $59.99 these days. Thats all I can think of right now...
