Guest guest
, For discussion purposes I would pose that the examples you stated (ie. exercise physiologists, massage therapists, personal trainers) are not bound by the restrictive language of various State practice acts, are more often than not, not directly employed by others and therefore hungrier (more hungry?) to create business. Much unlike our profession that is bound by restrictive language and in most cases whose business is referred to us by others and where more often than not we receive a paycheck every pay period, whether or not we brought in the business. I appreciate the opportunity for the dialog. Walters, PT
Guest guest
, That's not a bad point about the Seinfeld PT episode. By the way, did the APTA even have a response to that? Anyway, I know that many DC's hail Charlie Sheen's role as a chiropractor on " Two and a Half Men. " Being a chiropractor makes for good comedy/entertainment, would people watch the " wacky antics " of a physical therapist or " physiotherapeudic physician " as I've heard a few DPT's self-anoint themselves? Would it make for good drama? I've seen nurses on ER, but the only PT in recent memory was having an affair with Dr. Benton and trying desperately to get out of PT and into PA school. They say " art imitates life. " Has our profession gotten this bad and we've failed to even notice? I certainly hope not! Drew Drew Respectfully, M. Guest guest
Drew, , and all I have to say that the way the PT profession has been portrayed in the popular media has been an irritant to me for a long time. We also have to remember Daphnie on Frasier who did the " PT " , but also cleaned the house and cooked the meals! Then there was the male PT in a on Ford movie who worked with on after he was shot in the head. One scene had them scoping a female staff person and the PT said " I " m going to get me some of that! " . And don't even get me started on daytime soaps. Yes, we are on there and we are usually the bad guys, or, seem to work full time privately for one of the main characters and end up fully restoring them to normal after a horrible stroke or paraplegia!! Aren't we amazing!! I really wish we were more aggressive in influencing how we are portrayed. I keep thinking that somehow we need to get some PT's on Oprah!! I think this is a great topic! Maybe we can generate some new approaches to change!! Thanks Vicki Vicki Tilley PT,GCS President ElderFit Physical Therapy & Consulting, Inc. (work) (fax) VSTilley@...
