Guest guest
I need some advice/comments about amiodarone. Vicky, I was put on amiordoran as my first a-fib med, and cardio-converted. It worked to keep me out of a-fib, and as time went on I did alright, few side-effects that I could'nt live with, except as I live in the south, and its sunny and hot here my skin often felt like a bunch of needles on it. I had to keep covered when I went outside. I also had a pulmonary function test every 3 months to check my breathing. All was good for about a year, when my eyes starting having trouble. I went for an eye exam, and they changed my glasses 3 times before an opthomoligist looked inside my eyes, and said that I was getting crystals inside of them. I came off amiordoran immediatley, and it took about 5 months to get it out of my system, but then I was already on sotalol, and it worked out alright. My eyes returned to normal, and Ive been fine ever since. I did have some dizzyness/litehead once in awhile, but the bottom lione is that it kept me out of a-fib. Ive been on sotalol for a year now, and have had no trouble with it, and mostly stay out of a-fib. Ive been working on my triggers, and got into relaxtion, and tai chi. I know that you have to take what works, but forewarned is knowledge, and now at least you will know what signs to look for. Take care, and let me know how you come out. Guest guest
Walt, Any significant side effects from sotalol? Did you do a hospital start up? Can you excersise vigorously while on sotalol? My cardio wants to put me on a low dose. Thanks Rich
Guest guest
No side effects that I can't live with. I get a little dizzy if I stand up to fast, but I did that before I was on sotalol, so no side effects that I know of Im on 180mg twice a day, and thats about a max dose level. I went into the hospital for 3 days to be sure that it was not going to make me worse. I was on amiordoran before, and ditiazen, attenollanocaine etc. So far sotalol has done really good for me. I have not gotten back to hard workouts yet, as Ive had to cut back, because of several arthoscopes on each knee, then a total knee replacemant, then a pacemaker etc. I was a runner, and have my own gym built in my house. Some days I can go father and lift more than others, but Im getting built back up again. I don't think thast the sotalol limits me working out, as much as my body does. I get my heart rate up, but not to the 118 level thast I was at. My Dr. wants me to keep it around 100, and do strength for awhile first. Anytrhing more that you need, just let me know. Walt in really beautiful Spring day in SC, sunny for Christmas???
