Beth: Thanks for the heads up on the acidophilus. He too is on pred. how much are you on? He is on 20 and will be going to 15 in 2 weeks. He is having sob now and I am wondering if it is from the weaning. Two weeks ago he was at 25. Anyway I am going to get acidophilus as a precaution it cannot hurt. One thing that my doctor didn't tell me about the acidophilus that I wanted to mention....make sure you take the acidophilus or eat the yogurt at least 2 hours after you take the antibiotic. The idea is to give the antibiotic time to clear your digestive system and then use the acidophilus or yogurt to put the "good bacteria" or "normal flora" back in the intestines. I take acidophilus every day now even though I'm not on an antibiotic. I am still on prednisone which makes me prone to yeast infection which the acidophilus can also help prevent. I'm not really surprised your doctor didn't recommend yogurt or acidophilus even though my doctor did. My sister who is an MD scoffed at the idea. Doctors are educated to rely on the most high tech solution available and a container of yogurt is pretty

low tech! Beth Fibrotic NSIP 06/06 Don't try to explain it, just nod your head. Breathe in, breathe out. Move on. J. It is a shame that the dr. did not recommend that and the yogurt when he prescribed it. I will never take another antibiotic without taking the 2 with it. Once again you need to rely on other sources of info. He was diagnosed with IPF in 1999 (RA came first) and just the last few month have nights become a nightmare. Laurie,

I'm currently on 30mg of prednisone. That's down from a high of 80mg at one point. My next doctor app't is the 14th and I anticipate that I'll go down to 20mg at that point. I am coughing significantly more than I was on the highest dose of prednisone and I'm definitely more sob and have a bit more trouble keeping my sats up. My O2 needs are definitely up on the lower doses of prednisone. I'm kind of hoping that it stablizes as I come off the pred but I have no idea what to expect. I'm just hoping for the best.

Good luck with the acidophilus. I had two bouts of thrush and intestinal yeast infection on the pred but none since I started taking acidophilus and eating yogurt every day.

Good luck!!

Sher,

As far as I know the answer to the yogurt vs acidophilus question is either works as long as the yogurt has what they call "active cultures". That means live bacteria in the yogurt. I know it sounds gross but they are the kind we want in our system and they help to keep our "gut" in balance. Most yogurt that you can buy in the grocery store contains active cultures.

Thanks for the kind words about my posts. Sometimes in my eagerness to help I think I can come across a bit know-it-allish but I never mean it that way.

Hope all is well with you. I just got home from the "Wellness Center" at Helen Hospital and I'm wooped. Time for a nap!!

Beth...thanks. Yes, I presumed the 'live culture' is what we need.

Say.........how do you get your 'signature' in color? I have Outlook Express and have to change from black on each email....sometimes I forget and it goes out black.

Sher,

I actually have come to like the Yahoo Beta. They're still working on it, it changes from time to time....so that can be somewhat disconcerting but all in all I'm happy with it.

I have had little problems with it here and there but the Yahoo Beta is supported by Verizon Fios which is my ISP so I've been able to get things resolved pretty quickly.

I don't know if I'd switch from Outlook Express or not. Are you happy with OE? The Yahoo Mail Beta is pretty easy but because it's still in the "Beta" stage, there are aspects that don't work or aren't available yet. It's all coming together a bit at a time and sometimes it's kind of quirky. I guess it depends on your tolerance for high tech gremlins...LOL
