She is now almost 5 months old, and is still having wretching problems. She foams at the mouth, gets a pathetic look on her face and her food spits up the tube into a venting syringe. She does this so often, that my husband and I have classified the wretches from minor to severe. Sometimes she just foams at the mouth and nothing comes up the tube. Other times she gags, turns deep red, and spits up half her last meal in the syringe. Our GI folks said that is probably gas bloat syndrome. We have her on reglan, zantac and symethicone. We feed her using a kangaroo pump and her day-time feeds take an hour. We also have her on a slower continuous feed overnight. Anyone have similiar problems? How long did it take to resolve? Did they just grow out of it, or is there something else we can do. I'm going to ask my pediatrician about trying acidopholous (sp?). Thanks! Guest guest
Leda, That is exactly what Austin was fed via nasal gastric tube when he was in the NICU and when we had him at home. He didn't gain too much weight though, and couldn't handle too much of my breast milk. I just wanted to comment on that. Just jogged my memory when you had said was on progestimal. Guest guest
Hi , THanks for the reply. is being fed breast milk fortified with progestimal formula. We were fortifying with Neosure, but the switch to Progestimal doesn't seem to make much of a difference. He also used Reglan, got a fundoplication, went to various specialists (gastroenterologists, neurologists, etc.). He eventually outgrew it, pretty much, at around two and a half I think. He still vomits occasionally, some days once, some days not at all, but not nearly the problem he had before. You might try Nutramigen as a formula...it is easy to digest and is available at some drug stores, supermarkets, Babys R Us (I think). Rather expensive, but we got insurance to pay for it. -Mike Schwartz in Ventura, CA, father of twin boys (CHaRGE) and .
Guest guest
Same here--Josh had difficulty with formulas until switched to nutrigemin (?sp). He was also on Zantac daily. He still has choking like episodes occasionally-mostly when fed too fast. We also feed in two cycles--2 oz, wait 15-20 minutes and complete feeding with 2 more ounces. Josh's PE tubes were clogged and the ENT MD pulled them two weeks ago--And Guess What---he has a ear infection now!!! We all are in a state of shock here in America.. It's become unbelievable. It seems sureal!!! Iris

Guest guest
Leda Josh is fed every two hours from 6am-10pm. Kriste feeds by gravity and boluses 2 ounces over 20 minutes, waits 10-15, then completed feeding with 2 more ounces. This seems to help so much more than anything. It was one suggestion from this list and it works. Iris
Guest guest
And I thought I had it rough! You don't do a continuous overnight feed? I guess it is better to get them used to not having food in their stomachs overnight, but I'm not sure we could get enough calories into without it at this point. How old/big is Josh? Sounds like he needs a lot more food than . She requires about 21 ounces of 24 cal/ounce formula per day. Re: G-tube/fundo problems > Leda > > Josh is fed every two hours from 6am-10pm.
