Dr. Kartzinel talks about this a bit in his book w/ McCarthy. Apparently,

it's pretty common. His plan involves giving a fleet enema every day for 5

days, plus fiber & laxatives. Good luck!

We used to go to the emergency room frequently for my son's constipation and

have not been back since giving a Trienza (http://www.houston-enzymes.com/) with

every meal. No more x-rays!

We went through this with my son a fews years back. Unfortunately, when you are that impacted, you need heavy duty stuff to clear him out. We did both enema(for the lower half) and a laxative (for the upper). Once he was cleaned out, then I put him on natural stuff to keep him from getting backed up. In the past, we have tried Mag Citrate, vita-c, Probiotic, ect. Every kid is different. But what really has worked is Oxypowder. When I see him starting to have hard b.m's, I give him a cap or 2 of oxypowder.

You could try to clean him out with the oxypowder or go the conventional way. Even the conventional won't harm him as you will only be doing it for a few days or till he is clear. Then you can go to a more natural approach. Either way, it won't be pretty but you have to get that out.

If you have anymore questions, please feel free to email me. We dealt with this problem for years and have finally come out of the woods.Good luck!!!!

We used OLE...within a month, BMs were frequent and constipation was gone. 2000

mg/day...clear out the bacteria and yeast and you'll be doing pretty good!!

PEARS are a natural fiber that helps you go to the bathroom. My son either eats an organic apple or a pear (fresh or glass jar) each day.Fleet enemas are used once a week for us. He is now 13 and uses an enema bag that we add natural probiotics to. But, Fleet enemas came to the rescue many times! Please be sure that you add back minerals/electrolytes. I use the Emergen-C packets sometimes.2 ounces of distilled water every half hour helps tremendously with compaction for kids under 5. Kids drink half their body weight in water/ounces. 25 lbs = 12 ounces water distributed throughout the day. This is in addition to other liquids, but get the water in !!!!We have used castor oil capsules taken orally before and it works Wonders!!!. We added probiotics and it also made a HUGE

difference in his ability to eliminate waste.`BelindaSubject: Help! X-ray shows my son is FULL of POOP ....To: mb12 valtrex Date: Wednesday, May 13, 2009, 6:11 AM

I don't know that fiber would be a good thing at the moment. Fiber will likely

add to his load and the goal at this point should be getting what's in there

out.

Don't know if they explained to you the risks of not getting it out but I wanted

to encourage you after my last post to not be afraid of the enemas or even some

laxatives at this point. The GI tract has a number of reflexes that cause the

digestive tract to move or sometimes stand still. If the bowel stands still long

enough it's called a paralytic ileus and that is very dangerous because bowel

tissue death can occur, which would mean a long surgery with long recovery.

Fleet enemas work by putting salt in the colon that draws more water from the

body that will help soften the stools. Soft stool should be a priority at this

point but keep him plenty hydrated by giving him lots and lots of water to

drink. He likely won't want much to eat or drink because of him feeling so sick.

After you get through all the tough stuff you could try regulate his bm's

consistently using a high potency digestive enzyme with each of his meals. Many

people have found that this rids the constipation and gets them in the bathroom

regularly.

Hope everything gets worked out for you and your little one. :)

Hi

My son suffered like this when he was younger.HE had behaviors b/c of it.We had

him xrayed and even though he had a poop everyday he was still backed up.He

would ram himself into the desk at daycare. We did enemas and suppositories along

with magnesium and CLO,vitamin C.Anything to help him poop more.HE is almost 8

and is much better.

Good Luck!

Could my son be constipated even if he usually goes once per

day?

He is a toe walker.

If he doesn’t go for a day (maybe once every other

week this happens), usually the next day the output is bigger, and has some

harder poops mixed in with his typically kind of mushy, sort of foul poops.

Poops have been getting better over time with bug reduction,

but my question is whether my son might be backed up with poop even if he is somewhat

regular and the stool is not hard? The fact that he toe walks – is that a

sign that he is? I’ve heard so many different explanations for the toe

walking.

Anyone have thoughts on this?

Thanks,

Have you read 's and Dr. Kartzinel's new book? An entire chapter on poop

and what to do for constipation naturally and medicinally. Don't quote me but

for severe constipation it said a children's fleet enema 5 days in a row.

Hi .

Has your son improved since you've been able to clear him out? I was looking at

the Oxypowder for my son prior to the x-ray. He has GREAT BMs each day so I

think this is old poop from before we changed his diet. Thanks so much.

Even if someone is having a bm once per day if they have slow motility they

could have it sitting in them. The average healthy time from swallowing to

defecation should be 12--24 hrs at the most. If it's taking him say 72 hrs or

longer, he could have a back up of stool. Motility problems are somewhat common

in those with autism according to the last DAN conference. In fact, it's a

problem in general for the average American diet.

We really don't have a problem anymore. It was years of back and forth constipation. I would check out the oxypowder. I was alittle nervous at first. But I start out low and slow with things. And it works! We only have to use the Oxypowder maybe once or twice a month and it is taken care of in a day. With no horrible blow outs. A full spectrum digestive enzyme should help with constiptation. And no not all

enzymes work the same way, different enzymes are aimed at different areas of the

body. For instance, there's enzymes for inflammation, yeast overgrowth

management, to balance immune system, etc. A high potency digestive enzyme

should help with digestion of soluble and insoluble fiber, along with

carbohydrate metabolism. Digestive enzymes turn the food we eat into energy and

unlock this energy for use in the body, of course this will happen less if the

food we intake isn't digesting properly..hence helping our bodies out by giving

it an enzyme to digest the food. This is true espeically with cooked or

processed foods, this destroys the enzymes contained within the food, then our

bodies have to produce the majority of the enzymes needed unless we use

supplemental enzymes to aid in the digestive process.

I hope this helps you out . :) Let me know if you have any other questions.

>Hi I am wondering if my son needs help, and when I should use a laxitive,

oxypowder ?? He has a BM usually everyother day, which I don't really see as a

problem. However, I just finished M's new book written with Dr.

Kartzenel, hope I spelled that right.. Anyways, they talk about a complete bm's

everyday .. I don't consider my son constipated , but would giving him

something extra to make him go be overkill..?? He's 6, and I am thinking about

taking a day to just totally flush him out with a laxitive..

It was great for us.

Dear GFCF Mom,

We went through this. My daughter is 15 years old. In January 2008 we ended up

at the ER with severe pain. I tried everything and couldn't get her to let me

give her an enema. They eventually did and what came out of her was astounding

and gross! A few days before this was our first DAN! appointment. I had a plan

in place and began a new journey in her life. Who would have thought at 13 years

old she could go on the GF diet, prescription anti-fungals, & vitamins that

would change her bowels! We do not have the problems we did back then. I journal

daily to know when she is pooping. I use Custom probiotics + 2 others, Vit C,

Milk of Magnesia, Oxypowder, GSE (this will cause poops as well), Biotin, epsom

salt baths, & LDN. I noticed a huge difference in her bowels the 4 month of LDN.

My daughter had zero good bacteria in her gut on the first comprehensive stool

test. She was 13 when we took that test. We redid the test a couple of months

ago (1 year later from 1st) and she has some good bacteria but is still severely

deficient. She is so behind a normal person. It takes an enormous amount of

probiotics to work on her.

I wish you well. Keep us posted!

Shanna
