Guest guest
Tara - try adding Zinc. Give it some time to work but you should see a willingness to try new foods and/or less resistance to texture. I found that if I worked on adding new things in first, then I could slowly remove the things I didn’t want him to eat. When I tried it the other way around, he was hungry and rejected more food. Reducing the sugars is just plain old difficult b/c they are craving the foods to feed the yeast. Watering down juices to fade them out and lessening the amount of sugary foods is where to start. Also, pound in those probiotics (without strep bacteria in them) at least 2 hours after you give the antifungal; usually after meal and before bed time. We used rewards in the beginning to try new foods. A parent once told me that she attended a feeding clinic where they said that a child has to see/taste a food for 21 days before they don’t view it as new anymore. This was true when I was working on my son eating carrots. We had them every night (yikes) for a month and he began to eat them. I started with just ½ a carrot, then worked up to a whole one, then several, and so on. Lots of praise and rewards. You will get there but the zinc really helped after a few months. We also had a non-reaction to Nystatin. Try to move to another antifungal, Diflucan, etc. and rotate them. I recently joined and have an almost four year-old boy with severe apraxia and pdd-nos. He was on a course of nystatin that didn't do much. We have had his stool tested twice - first time it came back with dysbiotic flora and some substantial beneficial flora. We then retested him about ten months later he only had the lactobacillus spp for beneficial flora and e coli and strep imbalances (no dysbiotic flora). We haven't done the urine test yet b/c we're having a difficult time collecting a sample. I know yeast is an issue for my little one, but he is SO picky about his food. All he eats is french toast, pb & j, pearsauce, pasta with veggie chips, potato chips, anything crunchy for snacks. It's all GFCF, but he always has jelly and pb on french toast and sandwich for lunch. I have no idea how to change his diet and get him to eat better as well as working on the yeast beast. Does anyone have any suggestions?
