The problem I found with Seroquel with my husband was, yes, it does calm after

they give it, but then they become agitated again, possibly more so, and then

you have to keep giving it.  So, that's why it does work on some of those that

take it all the time.  I think what the concern is the possibility of NMS.  The

last time my husband was in the hospital and  they couldn't find the cause of

his high fever and extremely high WBC, I asked the doctor if it could be NMS,

and he snapped his head around and said " No, he doesn't have that. "   Never mind

that he didn't have an answer for the high fever, etc.  But, when he returned to

the NH the next day, his chart said " Allergic to Seroquel and Ativan, " both of

which I had tried to get them to stop.  A mere coincidence - I don't think so.

Of course, in the long run, we all know that no matter what they get or don't

get, the results are the same, but if he did have NMS, he was put through a lot

of

unnecessary pain, etc.  And so was the family.

June - I appreciate your sharing this article and I'll certainly save

it in the Links section... But keep in mind Seroquel is the med that

many w/ LBD have had luck with. My mother couldn't handle it; but

many here have success with Seroquel and don't want this article to

scare people away. If your LO is agitated, aggressive, and/or scared

by their hallucinations (and the cholinesterase inhibitors are found

not to be effective for these symptoms) than sometimes, Seroquel is

the only way to help.

The key is finding a Lewy-savvy doctor to work with you & your LO.

And not treat LBD like it's any other dementia...

Again - should anyone be looking for a Lewy-savvy doctor I've worked

on a database of doctors that may have one listed in your immediate

area.... It'll always be a 'work in progress' but might be able to

help...
