wise words, Heidi, thanks!I'm a JM fan too and yet, her child responded to anti yeast which accd to her book was ThreeLac-- even though he was GFCF. Hi there - Every DAN! doc is different. When I saw Dr. Nuebrander, I could quickly tell that he was into his research, which is MB12 and HBOT. He is a brilliant man and well respected researcher but seems to be focusing on certain things. My personal opinion is that you might do well on shopping around for a DAN! that matches your ideas on how to approach your child’s medical needs. I have found that a “whole”istic approach is best for anything – medical or traditional therapy. Dr. Neubrander told me that he generally starts parents on B12 b/c he can usually get a bang out of it and then doubting parents will follow him down other paths that they might have hesitated on before. I fully understand this “hook” he wants to get, however, I feel that it leaves parents starting at a point where I don’t think it’s particularly smart to start at – going after magic bullets. Let’s face it, HBOT and others are expensive and if you do that treatment, you want to make sure you have yeast under control and your child can detox. I view treatments like this as a ‘polishing’ at the end near recovery (yet I know that for a few, this is their big bang). I think that McCarthy had a really basic, easy to follow message at last year’s DAN!, it goes something like this: 1) clean up the diet (Feingold, GFCFSF, organic, yeast-free, low sugar, etc); 2) add supplements & enzymes; 3) investigate meds for viruses, fungal issues, yeast; 4) detox, detox, detox 5) have a positive, healthy attitude toward health and hope for your child . The DAN! message this year was basically “start by adding in the good things your child needs and doesn’t currently get, then take out the bad things that they shouldn’t have in their bodies”. This applies to food, toxins, yeast, viruses and so on. It has been found that if you start with a treatment but don’t yet have a child with a fully functioning detox system, you can do more harm than good (chelation for example). Or if you don’t address underlying allergies & inflammation, other treatments won’t work at all. I have found this over the past 11 years of doing DAN! treatments. I am now going back and ‘filling in the blanks’ of things I missed or didn’t do correctly. I think this is why my son hasn’t fully recovered – he’s really high functioning, but we struggle with OCD and attention problems from that. The GREAT news is that today, the DAN! docs know so much more than even three years ago. A good doc will lead you down a path that covers all areas of health and then will start trying specific treatments based on testing and clues that your child shows. You will become a detective along with you DAN! doc, instead of trying ‘big bang’ treatments. Hope my humble opinion helps you. We have been getting treatment from a DAN doctore (Dr. Neubrander) for the last 4 months. My son is on MB-12 shots/nasal spray and 6 supplements currently. Though I must admit that there has been improvement in his behaviour but there has no improvement whatsoever in his speech which is still restricted to just babbling.Dr. has suggested to go in for HBOT after 6 weeks and neurofeedback. I have already spent several thousand dollars in doctor visits, supplements, blood tests etc and HBOT is something which is very difficult to sustain owing to its cost.I was thinking is it worthwhile to persis with all this biomed treatment as the results are not in line with the effort and the cost spent.Kindly advise/suggest.
