Guest guest
Good question . I worked as an LPN/LVN specializing in Geriatric/Alzheimer care. I ran an Alzheimer facility for two years and the last two years of my nursing I worked in Staff Development. I spent most of my 25 years in nursing caring for patients in skilled nursing facilities so had a lot of care with terminal patients. I miss nursing and though I will never be able to do it again, I just paid over $100 to have my license renewed. Just cant bear to let it go yet. That may be silly, but I worked hard for that license and in fact was 6 credits away from my RN degree when I became disabled. I went to nursing school while raising 5 kids and married to an alcoholic husband so it was a hard earned degree. I bet we have a lot of persons in some form of health care in this group. Carolyn No day is wasted that is spent praising Jehovah. -- out of curiosity........ i was just wondering what type of work everyone did/does? i, myself worked with dementia patients for 7 yrs.....guess that's why i am the way i am. lol too much of it rubbed off on me. (teehee) and no comments from the p-nut gallery peggy sue. lol i worked 4 yrs as a prison guard in a maximum security all male facility. elayan hunt correctional center in st gabriel Louisiana. because we only worked 14 days a month i had my job still with my dementia patients on my days off. when i moved to Texas, I went to work for the Texas Dept. of Criminal Justice.........as a prison guard.........and very shortly afterwards, i told them exactly where they could put their confederate grey uniform because they weren't paying me nearly enough for what they were asking us to do. then i went into retail for 3 yrs and the automotive industry,....but behind a desk mostly. which is where i stayed until i could no longer climb the stairs in the building.......now i do, um, NOTHING. i know denise is a teacher, we all know what Leanne is....a big mouth. hehehehe just kidding. teri's husband Jon works for the dept. of defense after retiring from the military...if sher wasn't a counselor, heaven knows she should have been.........joyce, peggy and ginger should have been spiritual healers....and maybe they will be in another lifetime. we have always called my husband the walking webster and his mom the rolling webster.....those 2 people are so full of absolutely useless information. it's not even funny. never attempt to play trivia pursuit with them, you'll get your ass kicked everytime. lol P needs a nickname similar to that, only his information is very useful. Guest guest
(some must have rubbed off, LOL) Wow, this curiosity has given me pause. I worked at the Pink Poodle Restaurant at 16 after running away getting married. then at a supermarket for 10 years. Had to actually make change and know division..LOL. 2 for 89 etc. worked at a plastic container plant for 2 or so years. Main job just being mommy. Babysat for it seemed like 50 kids. Since I didn't " work " everyone thought I would be home anyhow, I could have made some money, you would think. I took care of my Mom & Dad for their last 20 years. Loved that. My Grandchildren started coming, 8 in all. they came to my house ( peanut butter central) every day after school for 10 years. We had an above ground pool 4' deep 28' long for me to exercise in but all the babies learned to swim there. So I think I qualify for nurse, taxi driver, cook, bottom and bottle washer. Learned sign language so as to communicate with my brother-in law, blind, deaf, mute. Kept him for a few years. ( he's here now for the Holiday) and 's recovering from surgery...OH enough..I am tired. You just wouldn't believe all that happened in between..LOL Life is good. I can't wait to see what's next. God Bless each and every one. Oh as to what I do ...?? NOTHING I don't have to. LOL Love and Prayers, Peggy 9/04 ipf i was just wondering what type of work everyone did/does? i, myself worked with dementia patients for 7 yrs.....guess that's why i am the way i am. lol too much of it rubbed off on me. Guest guest
, Like you I haven't slowed down although my husband wishes that I would slow down just a little. I am out and about each day picking my 13 year old grand daughter up from school and taking her to my daughters job and dropping her off. I am the secretary for my church and I am there in the office 2 or 3 days a week making sure that the bills are paid and that the filing is done and just regular office work. I use to do voluntee work with battered and abused women and children which I was good at, but they wanted me to start being an advocate for children that had been raped or were living in incest and I just couldn't do it. It broke my heart and upset me way to much so I gave it up. It just was not easy to go to the ER and talk to a 5 or 6 year old( and sometimes younger) child that had been raped by their mother's no good boy friend and have the mother say well she seduced him and take the boyfriends side against the child. I usually left the ER about ready to kill someone. I felt that they should have arrested the mother along with the boyfriend. I gave that up after just a few months. I now spend most of my time painting and making things for my children and grand children. I do some ceramics and make some jewelery and such. I just try to stay as busy as possible and fight this monster the best I can. I was fortunate when I applied for my SSD because my doctor is the doctor for SS in MS and he was able to get me approved with in about 30 days. I applied in Jan and got my first check in March. My husband said that the only thing about my having to give up my job was that I was home more. There were times when I would go out on the boat to work that I didn't come home for 45 to 60 days. I use to tell my family that I lived on the boat and came home to visit. When I did come home I had 15 days to do what I wanted to. Often times my husband and I would load the van and go out west or to visit our daughter in Madison, WI or down to FL to visit friends. That was the nice thing about my job. Hugs and prayers! It was the hardest work I've ever done. Saw things I that made me really dislike human beings. I only lasted two years. CPS staff are angels in my book. LynnA>> I am/was a Social Worker. When I first recived my degree, I worked in Child Protection. Saw things that has never left my memory. Went back to school, got my Masters Degree in Social Worker and a license for counseling. Mainly worked in Long Term Care Facilities, usually focusing on families and their ability/inability to accept & cope. I finally was no longer able to walk to patients rooms without getting so badly out of breath and I quit work for good in July. Guest guest
FYI...The average length of employment in child protection services is 3.5 years. It is very difficult to continue to see abusive behavior day after day, plus the threats of harm to yourself, from family member of the child. Plus, law suits etc. etc. I initiated parently classes for parents at risk of abusing and really thought it would help but must say how discouraged I was when it seems they would "forget" and hurt their child anyway. And then when I began working with the elderly population, I witnessed the same things, only this time it was young hurting old. Hard work. But I sure do miss it. out of curiosity........> > > i was just wondering what type of work everyone did/does?> > i, myself worked with dementia patients for 7 yrs.....guess that's > why i am the way i am. lol too much of it rubbed off on me. > (teehee) and no comments from the p-nut gallery peggy sue. lol> > i worked 4 yrs as a prison guard in a maximum security all male > facility. elayan hunt correctional center in st gabriel Louisiana.> because we only worked 14 days a month i had my job still with my > dementia patients on my days off.> > when i moved to Texas, I went to work for the Texas Dept. of > Criminal Justice.........as a prison guard.........and very shortly > afterwards, i told them exactly where they could put their > confederate grey uniform because they weren't paying me nearly > enough for what they were asking us to do.> > then i went into retail for 3 yrs and the automotive > industry,....but behind a desk mostly. which is where i stayed until > i could no longer climb the stairs in the building.......now i do, > um, NOTHING.> > i know denise is a teacher, we all know what Leanne is....a big > mouth. hehehehe just kidding. teri's husband Jon works for the > dept. of defense after retiring from the military...if sher wasn't a > counselor, heaven knows she should have been.........joyce, peggy > and ginger should have been spiritual healers....and maybe they will > be in another lifetime.> > we have always called my husband the walking webster and his mom the > rolling webster.....those 2 people are so full of absolutely useless > information. it's not even funny. never attempt to play trivia > pursuit with them, you'll get your ass kicked everytime. lol> > P needs a nickname similar to that, only his information is > very useful. > > EG 10-05>
