We (my twins) had sackie a few weeks ago. Nick had 101 fever for 2 days

and a rash on his belly, groin area and legs that looked like prickly heat -

no little whiteheads. The clincher was the cold type sores all around his

lips. Robby had a fever of 103 for almost 5 days, no rash on his body but

his inner lips, tongue and a his upper lip

had horrible cold sores. He refused to eat anything for two days.

All this happened while we were vacationing.

Colleen used to get a rash in that area *a lot* and they always had the

white heads.... it was usually diagnosed as a Staph infection (bacterial)

and she was given oral Keflex which usually cleared it right up.....

BUT there are so many other things that it could be that I would definitely

have it looked at.... the white heads *usually* mean that it is more than

the standard yeast based diaper rash.... imh(nonmedical)o.... my 2 yo

is being treated for the yeast rash with a nystatin/hydrocortisone cream

which has worked wonders.... but his bumps do not have *any* white

heads.....

Good Luck and keep us posted....

That doesn't sound good at all! If it were me, I would go straight

to Dr. G tomorrow (if they are open) or Tuesday. I hope you get an

answer that's better than mine...

Kristy,

I wish I had more ideas, but the only thing I can think of is that filled

blisters are what happen to the children of a friend of mine when they eat

corn.

Good luck figuring it all out!

Hi Kristy -

I'm not exactly sure, but you're describing my

husband's recent rash, and it was a staph infection.

A few lesions presented differently than that without

the blister, but he did have one that had a blister

(for a while) too. They started like a bite or a zit,

then flat angry red skin (inflammation), one a clear

fluid blister that later filled w/pus. If it gets a

black scabby-looking center (just like a scab but

darker), then it may begin to abscess.

Impetigo is usually a bunch of little white pustules,

isn't it? But staph doesn't always do that.

I don't know about just the plain blister. But the

other one, I'd ask if it could be cultured. Is there

any puss that could be collected?

I took my son for a lesion that I figured was staph

because my hubby had had it. He was diagnosed w/a

brown recluse bite. But she cultured it, and it came

back MRSA staph. His lesion looked completely

different than his dad's.

Don't let that scare ya. First, it may not be, but it

is overlooked and misdiagnosed sometimes. It's really

not usually that bad if it eventually gets taken care

of.

Oh - and they all started looking like a little bite.

Thanks so much for the replies!!

What were the treatments? Is Bactoban cream sufficient, or does she need

something more? An oral antibiotic? She was intolerant to corn as a baby (it

was killing her), so I'll remove it and see if it makes a difference.

We're in San Diego, so I don't think I'll take her to Dr. G, but maybe back

to the peds and see another dr. in the practice today.

(bronx)...

I saw your daughter came back with 1 gene for FMF. My son did too

(last week I got the call)...Ped ID Doc said it shows that he is

just a carrier (hetrozygus)...but doc wants to do further testing on

it)...

I also have appt with Ped Rheum in a couple weeks at Hackensack Med

Ctr because I just felt the Ped ID doc was just too unfamiliar with

all the Periodic Fever Syndromes.

I need an answer already!

(niko fevering since 6 mos old - now 2 1/2)

My son just had Henoch-Schonlein Purpura a little over a month ago. Not

a very pleasant disease and we felt fortunate that it only lasted a

little over a week for us. He was poked & prodded alot that week since

he seemed to hit every serious symptom & some unexplained others. I was

glad that he was still small & I could still carry him around on those

non-walking days. My son's HSP came a few days after a typical

episode, so we are not really sure what trigger his illness.

I did a search on this site & did not find any other mention of it. I

was totally suprised when you mentioned it, because only about 10 in

every 100,000 children will get it.

In my research of HSP, I did find mention on one site that it is

sometimes common in children with FMF. We are getting ready to do the

genetic testing, so not sure if we fit in that category or not.
