Guest guest
Peaches, Thanks for this link. They have a lot of good recipes linked in there too. Reading through the protein stuff, I see I'm not getting enough. I'd been wondering about it because my energy has been rather low lately. I also don't know what kind of surgery I had. I mean I have the term in my head: RNY Lap. But his site references different terminology. So that's confusing. Anyhow I realized how much I don't know yet and need to figure out. I mean, I think I'm eating the right things but I'm just having one protein drink a day and it has about 23 gms of protein. I add calcium and vits to it but I guess I need to drink more protein drinks. Again, thanks P.S. I'm down to 230 from 247 pre-surgery. Guest guest
Gracie, My surgeon's office advises 60-70 mg protein per day which is less than that site says but you should be getting an absolute minimum of 60 mg a day. It doesn't all have to be in the form of supplements, in fact some doctors don't agree with supplements at all. But however you get it you must get at least 60 mg. I do a protein bar or shake very day, 16 gm. worth if milk, plus at least 2 high protein meals such as eggs, chicken, beef or tuna. The Lap in RNY Lap stands for the type of surgery you had, baroscopic as opposed to an open incision. RNY's can be proximal, medial or distal which refers to how much intestine you had removed. I think the majority are proximal (the least amount) but you would have to ask your surgeon.
