Guest guest Posted November 15, 2006 Report Share Posted November 15, 2006 Nick will be seeing a pediatric pulm 4 hours away on the 27th of this month. we are not able to get him into the pediatric pulm dept. at texas children's hospital here in houston until march...they just contacted us with a date for that. that's ridiculous if you ask me, even our PCP called and tried to get him in sooner with no luck. he is having a high resolution cat scan this afternoon which was ridiculous to schedule. i went there to pick up his chest xrays and tried to make his appt for the CT when they told me they only make appt's over the phone! hello! i'm standing right here at the damn desk! so i had to go out to my truck, get on my cell phone and call the same damn place that i was sitting in their parking lot! RIDICULOUS! Vicky, you and your family are in my thoughts. I think I would have called them right in front of them just to show them how stupid they are being. I know right now you are not up to anyone putting an obstacle in your path when it is dealing with the care of your son. Hang it there sweetie, take deep breaths to relax yourself for you probably do not realize how tensely you are holding your body in check which in turn causes you to breathe shallowly. You need to try to take care of yourself in order to be well enough to take care of Nick. I so worry about you and wish I could help in some way. Please keep us posted on how the both of you are doing. It is worse that ridiculous about not being able to get an appointment until March with the Pulm at Childrens. I have never heard of any one not scheduling an appointment with someone that is standing right in front of them. I would have had to ask if they had stock in the phone company. Hugs and prayers! How is our boy feeling? Does he have an idea that he may be very sick? That is a big load for a small boy to carry. Guest guest Posted November 15, 2006 Report Share Posted November 15, 2006 well.........how do you break this down to a 6 year old. i just told him that in the pictures they took of his chest they saw something on his lung but not to worry cuz his mommy was going to get him every dr she had to until they fixed him. (what else am i supposed to say?) yeesh! i'm 30 and don't understand all of this mess all the time. anyhow, he asked if he was going to have to have air like i do and i said not for a very very long time and he asked if he was going to have to go to the hospital in an ambulance like i did and i just said well i certainly hope not. that's really no fun at all...... but other than that he hasn't asked anything and i do not wish to volunteer too very much info until i know exactly what is it we are dealing with. thanks so much for all of your phone calls and emails. i know i have been a very bad respondant but under the circumstances i am sure youa ll understand. thank you all once again. It is important not to give them to much information because children tend to think that when you over explain something then it is something to really fear and that is the last thing he needs to be doing. You were able to reassure him without deceiving him and because of that he will be able to leave the worrying to you. Nick may actually have the type of ILD that has a long mortality rate, so its not time to panic. Now, I know that is easy for me to say, when in reality I would be reacting the same way if it were my child. Remember though he will be watching you closely for what you do not say and will get upset if he sees you getting upset. Hopefully, when with him you can put aside your fears and just be Mom and Son having a good time. I hope so anyway.
