Hi ,

My son has been on Tennex (generic is Guanfacine) for a couple of years now. It

works great! He used to be very hyper and that's gone. It has also helped with

concentration, he can now sit with his tutor for 1 & 1/2 hours with maybe a 2

minute break.

Hope it helps,

Argie

[sPAM] Re:

In response to the Tenex- I think you might be absolutely right. I

had come across that on Dr. G's web site and thought to myself " I've

never heard of that drug. "

In fact I was actually printing off some information about it to bring

to a specialist. It does look like something worth investigating.

Thanks very much for the mention I appreciate that. :-)

Have you had a child on it- or any experience with it? If so- how has

it worked for you?

Thanks again.

My son is on Tenex as well. How much does your child take? We are attempting to

wean our son off this drug to see if he actually still needs it. When he was off

it for a couple of days before a medical procedure, we saw an increase in

language. I was concerned that the Tenex was keeping his blood pressure on the

low side, thus decreasing blood flow to the brain. When he was first put on the

drug, it was a lifesaver. It eliminated nearly all his hyperactivity; before

Tenex, he couldn't even sit in a chair for a couple of minutes.

Tenex is definitely worth a try, but if you start it, do it on a weekend. It

may cause drowsiness until the body adjusts, usually in two to three days.

Good luck,

Robyn

My son is on 1/8 tab Tenex/day (he's 5.5 and ~37 pounds), and I've been

happy with the results. We tried to increase the dose (I don't know why),

and it made him a miserable, whiny, crying mess ;-(

Hi, .

Can you tell me where you saw the reference to Tenex on Dr. G's website. I'd

like to read more about it.

Thank you.

Actually if you simply type in 'Tenex' once you go to

www.neuroimmunedr.com, then enter the 'conference' section- and click

on the 'search' option.

Several references come up to Tenex when you search for it on the

board... that is what I did. Other than that you can go to

www.wikipedia.org, and just type in 'Tenex' into the search bar. That

should give you some good info. :-)

  • 2 months later...

I FINALLY GOT My E BOOK UP I GUESS YOU CANT PRINT IT OUT BUT IT ANSWERED MY OTHER QUESTION ON LOADING ON PHASE 2 I am 5' 2 so this time I am going to use the lower dose 150 i lost daily on the 200 but about the three weeks in it slowed way down to 2 a week so I think the 200 made my immunity peak early.

URGENT: Need help with unexplained weight gain on Phase 3...

Hi Everyone,I am really distraught, and I need some help. I ended my last shot a week ago.... in an 8 day span on Phase 3, I HAVE GAINED 15 POUNDS BACK! I have not touched a single shred of sugar or starch... I have been extremely diligent. Could it be that I am eating too much? Not the right kind of foods? I am eating no sugar, no starch. I started on an "induction phase" Atkins eating plan, except with spinach salads... so I am not watching fat content nor quantity. I am drinking from half a gallon to a gallon of purified water every day. I almost feel like I am retaining water... like more is going in that is coming out (if that makes sense.) Eating lots of eggs, cheese, chicken breast, pork rinds, spinach, olive oil, coconut oil.My FIRST DAY on Phase 3, I gained 5.2 pounds! I literally wanted to cry... I reread the Simeon's text, and I think I misinterpreted it the first time. I took my last shot, waited TWO FULL DAYS and then on the THIRD DAY, I started Phase 3. After reading it again, I feel that I should have waited THREE FULL DAYS and THEN should have started Phase 3 on the FOURTH DAY. With that said, that is "water under the bridge" as they say, and I will do 3 full days next time. BUT, I keep gaining and gaining. I even did a "steak and apple" day the day after I gained the 5.2 pounds, and the result? The scale didn't even budge... same exact weight! Another example.... on Thanksgiving, I was very careful. Had turkey, green beans made with bacon and I even brought my own side... cauliflower mash with cream, butter and cheese. Didn't have dessert or anything with sugar or starch. Alcohol has not touched my lips in 3 months, including Thanksgiving. Result? I GAINED 4.2 POUNDS!!!!! That is the kind of weight gain I used to have when my metabolism was messed up. I am just perplexed and seriously depressed about this... I feel like all of my hard work is slipping away between my fingers like sand. I am to the point that now I am paranoid and don't want to eat anything. Please, any recommendations would be appreciated. I am seriously distraught about this. I am almost starting to think that this is all BS. I lost 51 pounds in 45 days.... GREAT... WONDERFUL... YIPEEEE... THAT'S THE BOMB! But now I am thinking, "What's the point if I already GAINED BACK 15 OF THEM?!?!?!" Thanks so much for listening to my rant...Rick :(

I was never offered sedation. Since the first one hurt so much, I asked for something to relax me before getting the second one. All it did was make me feel weird. I still felt the pain. The doctor that gave me the injections told me exactly where it was going to hurt. I was told to lie flat on my back the rest of the day. Yes, the epidurals are buying me time until they improve the procedure which I am sure they will do. Joan

Yes, Joan, epidurals work great -- for me. As for the shots themselves, I never felt any discomfort from the actual injection procedure, and only relief from the effects of the steroidal solution. The epidural clinic wanted $250 for sedation, but I decline their sedation and self medicate beginning an hour before the procedure using a physician-prescribed benzodiazepine (xanax, valium, klonopin, ativan, etc.-- I prefer Klonipen.) I don't remember even seeing the doctor, just getting in the gown, climbing in the bed, and nodding off. Evidently I cooperated with them by rolling over, so I wasn't completely knocked out, but I have no memory of the injection itself.Although epidurals, as I have written, are probably not a good long term strategy, they may be a good way of buying time until the proposed spinal surgery is more refined. Only a few years ago, the same surgery would seem pretty crude by today's standards. I'm opting for tomorrow's standards to the extent I'm able.

Well, I am not a physician, though I have lit one on television (I am

a film lighting gaffer). In my estimation, you were insufficiently

tranquilized. Before you next epidural, I would ask you doctor how

much Xanax can you safely take. And then take it 1 hour before your

procedure (and while you are in bed.) I cannot imagine it not

completely knocking you out. I think pain and anxiety are an

interwoven reaction. We are made anxious by pain, and our anxiety

sensitizes us to pain. When we are in chronic pain, we have a hard

time maintaining our equanamous minds. Or at least that how I process

it.
