Guest guest
Pam, Our son 9 is on Concerta (36mgs.)and Zoloft (25mgs.). He takes half a Zoloft in the am and the other half a bedtime. This has only been the case since mid-summer. I have noticed a decrease in his " worrying " and excessive thinking about coming events. I was even able to tell him some info about school and a meeting that we had in prep for the start of the school year and he was excited and asked some questions, but hasn't " obsessed " about it. And I told him about a mini-vacation that we are taking next weekend to Washington, D.C. and he told me a joke about Washington! For the enzyme, I think that enzyme contains papain and/or bromelain, which some kids don't tolerate and it can cause hyper. Wait the 3 week adjustment period, see if things don't settle down. Guest guest
>>>Now he's at 75 mg. But as some of you know, weaning can take a while because of the withdrawel. Could that be why he's extra hyper? Also, we're doing Kirkman's complete enzyme with DPIV. But so far have only done one per meal--about half hour before. The bromelain, papain, and actinidin in the enzymes can possibly cause hyperness. Also starting enzymes can make your medication and other supplements be better absorbed (so the body is actually metabolizing more of what you are swallowing than before). More uptake of the animo acids can cause hyperness. He may not need as high a dose of Zoloft now with the enzymes. .
Guest guest
It shouldn't be a problem since zoloft and chelators do entirely different things in the body. Many adults on the frequent dose chelation site use these types of medications while chelating. Andy has said in his books that some people need SSR's or other meds to help with the side effects of metal poisoning so they can function through chelation to get better. I would ask if you have checked your child's adrenal funtion and if anything is being done to help it. I personally suffered from anxiety for most of my adult life until I realized the connection between adrenal insufficiency and panic/anxiety problems. Once I began treating my adrenals, I no longer had anxiety or panic problems. I have talked with many other adults on frequent-dose that have found the same thing to be true. Doctors very often do not make this connection. Our adrenals are responsible for the " flight or fight " reaction, and what would induce a panic or anxiety in us. When the adrenals are not working right, this happends when it is not needed. > > Is it safe to chelate while the child is on zoloft for his anxiety? > > Thanks. Guest guest
Question for the group. Have any of your kids experienced weight gain with Zoloft? Thanks in advance! Argie
Guest guest
When we switched from celexa to zoloft, we definitely noticed an increase in hunger (of course resulting in weight gain). Though, it tappered off after about two to three weeks. >From: Argie <golivo@...> >Date: 2007/10/24 Wed PM 09:49:01 CDT > >Subject: Zoloft > >Question for the group. Guest guest
My DS14 is on zoloft and has been for many years. We have never seen any bad side effects. We have had to change other meds, but never the zoloft.Sent on the Sprint® Now Network from my BlackBerry®From: "cmt263" <gina9431@...>Sender: Date: Sat, 03 Jul 2010 14:34:12 -0000< >Reply Subject: ( ) Zoloft Sorry if this has been asked before......I was wondering how many children are on Zoloft, how it has worked for them, and what side effects they have experienced. My 8 year old has tried on meds a year or 2 ago, but we stopped due to side effects. He started having tics with Concerta & Strattera and couldn't stay awake on Clonidine (even after giving him just a quarter of a pill). He spent most of last year isolated from his peers in the classroom and at lunch (they put him in his own little " office " in both places). I stressed at the end of the year I wanted this stopped as I feel it is hindering his ability to learn the social skills he so desperately needs to learn. We are writing a new IEP and I intend to have this in there. Anyway, after sending him to boyscout camp for 3 days, I am worried including him with his peers will not happen. He was sent home 2 out of 3 days for hitting and aggression. He hit my brother last Friday out of anger and just really seems to have a hard time controlling his emotions anymore....especially anger. I have always thought most of this comes from anxiety (for example....lunch is worst at school as he struggles with sensory issues in the cafe). I was just considering trying some meds again, as his facial tics have been non-exsistent for months now. However, wouldn't ya know, they have started back in full force over the last few weeks. They do seems to be worse when he is talking to me or when we are out in public, making me think they go along with his stress. It makes me wonder if he is not more stressed now with it being summer and not having the consistency of a school routine???? He went 2 weeks ago to a camp for autistic kids (where he had his own counselor).....which he absolutely loves!!!! I decided to send him back on my own dime next week. It will be very much like the autistic camp, but this camp is just for any kids with disabilities. It is very structured and he loves it, so I'm a bit surprised he would be feeling so stressed right now, but I guess we are only talking a week at a time.Any suggestions would be great. I am terrified to try meds again, but worry I am not helping him by ignoring his anxiety. I myself have anxiety and have taken meds for it and know how much it helped me. Another thing I'm hoping it will help with is his limited diet. He refuses to eat so many things. I'm not a big meat eater (can't help but think where it comes from, lol), but I do remember I found myself eating more while on the meds......Thanks for your help! Guest guest
My son is 14. He has anger issue too. My son was put on an anxiety medicine in 6th grade when his poppy was dying. He has gotten to the point where he know when he needs to take it. And, it is usually for social situations such as going over to a friend's house. It has helped. This year we had a bout of him not going to school for a week...due to bowel issues...well, on Friday of that week we got him back into school for 1/2 day...He took his anxiety meds...(xanax) in order to go back to school. He took his pill each morning for the next week and a half...but was able to stop again. He will ask for his med. when he feels anxious. Maybe something like this would help you son. I don't like to medicate but if it enables my son to function...then I will give it to him. It truly has helped him when he truly needed it.
