Guest guest
Hi Kathy If one physician doesn't listen to your complaints, try to get a second opinion, preferably from an electro/physiologist cardiologist, who are trained specifically to deal with rhythm problems. I was on Amiodarone and did well for a little while, but then it also began to affect me. good luck, Leo amiodarone > My mum, who already has asthma, has had poblems wit her heart and, > after a recent spell in hospital, was prescribed amiodarone. the side > affects sh has been having ar awful fr her. Guest guest
Kathy, Sorry to hear about your mother's troubles with amiodarone. Others have reported bad effects from this drug. I can only echo Leo's suggestion to have her see another doctor, preferably a cardiologist. Sandy amiodarone My mum, who already has asthma, has had poblems wit her heart and, after a recent spell in hospital, was prescribed amiodarone. the side affects sh has been having ar awful fr her. Her breathig is much worse, short of breath after the slightest, a hacking cough and a vile metallic taste in her mouth. She as mentioned all of this to her doctor with no avail, the specialist wants to keep her o this medication. To top it all her thyroid has been afected. This is getting her down and i can see a decline in her, a case o the medicine being as bad as the illness it is meant to help. Any ideas as to what she can do to allieviate some of these effects Thanks, Kath

Guest guest
Hi Kath, I am very sorry to hear about your MUM. I too have Asthma and all the side effects you mention I have had. I KNOW HOW SHE FEELS and its not funny, If I remember correctly it does say in the Amiodarone instructions that if you had a dry cough you should seek medical advice ASAP. The metallic taste is a known side effect of this drug. My Advice, go and find another DR preferably an EP as soon as you can. To try and help you mum out does she take Steroids inhaled ? If so for a short term solution increase these. I would seriously insist on another medication. Good luck C Hornchurch England My mum, who already has asthma, has had poblems wit her heart and, after a recent spell in hospital, was prescribed amiodarone. the side affects sh has been having ar awful fr her. Guest guest
I agree Tikosyn is more than a good proxy. However Kath could you be more specific re your mum's heart problem?
Guest guest
Well, that is the final straw! I risk sunburn, blue skin, thyroid problems, liver problems, lung problems besides eye damage and now body odor. Guess it is time for a call to the doctor's office! That I haven't heard before but nothing surprises me. No one around me has said anything but will ask when I go in next time. Glad to hear you are doing better without it. Also glad to hear there are other possibilities as far as medication goes because I would sure hate to go back to having a fib all the time. I am going to stay on sotalol and look for a new doctor.
