Guest guest
East Anglian Daily Times Letters. They never really were true friends if, when Amy Paddick (Amy so tired of coping with ME, East Anglian Daily Times, 10 May 2007) was diagnosed with M.E. (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis) , they left her feeling alone and isolated. It's their way of dealing with the ignorance of this dreadfully debilitating illness; they disbelieve it, they create myths and they make jokes, belittling the illness and the sufferer. Sadly, it's not only kids who do this to each other. Some sceptical doctors do exactly the same things to avoid having to say they don't understand M.E. and some researchers are spending £millions on sticking plaster solutions, instead of admitting there is a physical cause, waiting to be discovered and crying out for the money they are squandering on management techniques of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Graded Exercise Treatment (GET) that either do not work, or make matters worse. It will take some time but we will get there sooner if Government advisers change the priority of funding to biomedical research.
