Guest guest
Years ago, when my son was exposed to chicken pox, Dr. G told me it was actually good timing because the Valtrex would lessen it while he'd still get immunity from having it. He said that it would most likely prevent the pox from breaking out and he'd most likely just run a fever and be a bit ill for a few days. I keep meaning to ask the doc to check his titers because my son did have a few days of not feeling well and seeming a bit feverish during that time but he didn't break out in the pox. It would be wonderful if he got immunity from having it without the full blown case. Guest guest
Hi , Too new to help you with your chicken pox inquiry but I am sure you will receive some great feedback from this group. I was wondering if you could elaborate more on what you referred to as the post-viral hip joint-itis. What is it? What causes it? How do you resolve it? Thanks! <thecolemans4@...> wrote: Hi all - My 6yr old has been exposed to the chicken pox (last Friday), and he hasn't had the vaccine. I almost would have, except I would lose his waiver for the other ones that I don't think he can handle yet, so... chicken pox it is. (Assuming he'll get them, which will be just in time for Christmas poor thing). He is not on the protocol. He is currently low-grade sick w/something sinus and on antibiotics. He has had a lot of post-infectious problems over the last year, especially after 5 months of CFS last year, then a couple of months ago, that post-viral hip joint-itis that I can't remember the name to this moment lol. While there's no good time to get chicken pox, I hate for him to get it while otherwise ill as well - but at least he won't be missing school (if he gets them). What I want most to know is how helpful Valtrex or Famvir are for chicken pox. His pediatrician wouldn't give them, but I may appeal to a couple of other docs who may be more generous (she's a minimalist and I'm starting to particularly dislike that). Anyone know? Guest guest
Yes, both would be good to help with chicken pox. Good luck finding someone, though! Guest guest
My mother was given Valtrex for shingles and those are the same HHV as chicken pox... so I'd think it would help. - in Mobile, AL __________________________ Reality lies beyond the horizon... Guest guest
, I think Dr. G might tell you to go for Zovirax and this is why... he likes it because it's the one you can dose per a child's weight (mg to kg I think). You have to give it 5 times a day (to maintain a good blood level, I think?) but he's got both of my boys on it instead of Valtrex or Famvir.
