Noah doesn't have it on his bum, but he does have it on his upper thighs.

I keep meaning to ask Dr. G about but as soon as I get in the office

I forget about it. Does anyone know why it happens or if there's

anything to do about it? It goes away quickly but it always comes back.

No, the raised red dots are usually yeast. Pitichia is little red

dots but when you look closely at them you can see that they are

burst capillaries. If I can get a good picture today I'll take one

and post it to the chat list group so you can see what it looks

like. A pitichia google search didn't produce much.

We get the raised dots off and on constantly. My son is on

ketoconazole and his been since February. I've asked Dr. G about

them and he didn't seem interested, then we got off the subject and I

forgot to ask again. Should we be doing something about them?

If they're not pitichia (haven't experienced that one at our house), could

they be keratosis pilaris? I know that a lot of our kids seem to have it.

It looks sort sort of like dry goosebumps, unless they get scratched... then

they are red.

Here's a good link about it...

It's actually spelled petachie. They can look like

tiny red bumps, but for them to meet that diagnosis,

there must be many many many of them. I get a little

one here and there on my chest from coughing, but

actually having petachie is a much bigger thing than

most of our kids are going to have. Also, they're not

raised, and I 'think' it would be a little hard to

mistake it for some kind of rash.

If I remember, it's usually on the limbs or across the

chest, usually means low platelets and is associated

w/a pretty major infection or other.

Our kids do not usually have this.

If it's on the buttocks, I'd suspect contact

dermatitis or/and yeast.

If it's on the front of the thighs, I'd think it could

probably be hyperkeratosis (harmless and not worth

worrying about). Hyperkeratosis will seem to come up

out of the pores. That's what I'd want it to be, and

it's very common w/our kids and us adults. It's not

particularly uncomfortable, although you may be

inclined to scratch it 'for fun'. It's not always red

bumps - sometimes it looks from a distance like you

got goosebumps, but it'll feel rough and you can

scratch off individual bumps.

There is also a condition where actual goosebumps come

up (w/the hair sticking straight up etc) that is

associated w/seizures, but when I've heard of that

there were always other seizure related symptoms like

smelling a bad smell, and I think the goosebumps would

come up only on one side of the body or in one spot.

Is it called hyperpilaris? Dunno. I think it could

probably be associated w/some temporal lobe

irritation. I noticed goosebumps a lot when my son

was 5 (last year) and had a CFS attack and having lots

of other problems, but they weren't really important.

I also think you can get them w/dysautonomia too.

Well that would certainly explain why I couldn't much in the way of

results from a google search... It's actually spelled petechiae. Go

figure.

My daughter has petechiae too. It happens when she is angry about something and

screaming. I have to wonder if they are worse when she has more yeast on board

than when she has less yeast but I can't prove either. I do know that there are

times when it seems to be much more severe than others. She has been tested for

Von Willebrands and she does have a mild form but she also has O blood type and

so that makes it more difficult to diagnose. I believe that once the immune

problems are completely in check maybe she will not have as much petechiae

spots. Only time will tell. Sheri

My son gets it probably every month or so. Same thing with my NT

son. It's not severe like most of the pictures you find on the

internet, though. Just a spattering of spots. It almost looks like

he sat on something because they almost have a perfect pattern to

them. Almost. I know he didn't but it's pretty odd. I've put a

call into Dr. G but Jeanette had no idea what I was talking about and

thought he had a rash of some sort. I told her it's not a rash and

since I'm not very good at explaining it, I told her Dr. G would know

what I was talking about. I have no idea if she actually told him,

though. So I guess I'll just have to remember to ask him at our on

Monday. Ha! Like that'll happen...

I found it. To fix the link, just add an underline between health and advice.
