Guest guest
: Welcome to a group that has helped all of us deal with this horrible illness that destroys our LOs bit by bit. I'm sorry your father is so ill. I wish I had some medical information for you. I know that in my own father's case, we've decided not to use a feeding tube when the time comes because it will only add to a prolonging of his suffering. You know that once a feeding tube is inserted, rarely does it get any better for our LOs. I don't know if allowing someone to die by dehydration is better. When my grandmother had a massive stroke and was in a coma, my sister and I fought the hospital's suggestion that she die in this way. As a result, she hung on in her coma for 11 days and the nurses told me that she wouldn't wake up but they once saw a tear running from her eyes when they went to move her as a means of preventing the formation of bed sores. I have to believe that somewhere in there my grandmother was there and was frustrated at the indignity of it all. In the end, I don't think we did her a favor by insisting she be given every opportunity to live. I hope that whatever decision you make regarding your father offers you peace and your father a calm passing. My prayers will be with you today .
