I think Carol Henning sees one of those docs.DelanaK65 wrote: Hi there. I was wondering if those of you who have used the two lady docs in Webster off of Hwy 3 could give me an update. I am having a time with my hormones and just emotional ups and downs. I had a TT 2 years ago in January for PapCa. Just a thought but maybe some of your ups and downs can be related to your

diet. I know I REALLY have to be diligent about staying away from soy which

acts as an antithyroid. Then I really had to be diligent about reading

labels because it is in many things that I never thought of. Mayonnaise is

a big problem but it was even in my hot cereal. I was using a protein shake

that I was careful to get because it was made with whey. Then I read the

fine print and there was soy in it also. Maybe there are some goitrogenic

foods that you are particularly sensitive to?

I had nuts in my salad at thyroid meeting. I did not even realize the nuts

were goiterogenic until Jan pointed it out. Sure enough by the time I got

home from the meeting I was ready for bed.

There is a list of goitrogenic foods at the home page in the files.

Following up with a doctor of course sounds like a great idea.

Hi. I am one of those who use the Your Family Doctors in Webster. I see

Dr. Hartig and recommend her. The office is the best run office I have

ever seen. They have a lab right there, so no need for a second

appointment. No long waits to see the doctor either. If she feels you

need a specialist, she will recommend one. A couple of points to

consider. They will want to see your insurance card when you sign in. If

your insurance plan is complicated, you may need to be assertive about

your payment, deductible etc. at the checkout desk.

My coworker who works on another station is seeing Vivian Hartig, on my

suggestion, but she's only seen her twice over the last 6 months or so,

mainly because coworker is not aggressive enough to remake her appointments

regularly. We got into a discussion about the fact that this doc had found

a low cortisol on her, even in the " regular way " , by blood test. The doc

called her and asked her if she was feeling very fatigued, and she told her

Yes, tired all the time. She was to make another appointment with her, but

hasn't done so yet. Funny, we just talked about this last night, and Doc

Hartig told her in that conversation a few months ago that she would be

amazed if she was even up walking around at all! Yet my coworker has not

made another appointment with her???? I told her that if I had the type of

insurance that her husband carries on HER, she would be seeing my dust, with

knowing that I had a low cortisol like that. She has been gradually raising

her T4, clear up to 300 mcgs, in tiny increments, but I THOUGHT that this

doc preferred Armour. I won't say anything bad about this doc yet because I

know my coworker-----she probably told her that she was dubious about trying

anything new yet, and she hasn't been keeping her appointments there, only

taking the couple of raises in thyroid med that she has given her. Does she

prefer Armour or is that she will prescribe MOST thyroid meds?

I can't speak to your coworker's situation. As I understand it, Hartig

is willing to prescribe armour or any other thyroid medication. Maybe

your coworker's blood work didn't suggest a T4/T3 medication?Or maybe

your coworker was uncomfortable with armour since it comes from pigs. We

are just guessing here.

Yes, I'm in complete agreement with you here, and I think that she has

personally suggested using the Armour to her, from something that she said.

You know, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink. What

I'm saying is that some patients are just like many of the " see it one way "

docs out here-----They are saying that they feel very very bad, yet any

suggestion to think " out of the box " brings a dubious look to their faces,

i.e., they're will ing to STAY feeling bad, if it means doing something

that's contrary to the way they are used to things being. (((Shaking my

head, I just don't understand how someone with really good insurance cannot

take a step forward))) This is what I'VE been waiting for, so I just don't

get it.
