Guest guest
Hi Robin, Botox is being use for specific treatment to reduce tension and spasticity in the muscles which allows some children to gain mobility. It is used to help relax muscles in legs and hands, but also in some circumstances to assist with drooling problems. The use of Botox is not a cure all and certainly not recommended for all children, but in many cases it can help them make progress in the use of hands and legs. An expert in this field would certainly be a good speaker at the convention. In Belgium, where we live now, the leading expert is a pediatric orthopedic surgeon. He has looked at our son and is relatively sure Finlay will be helped by botox treatment. However, he has set a programme of rigorous stretching which is being reviewed regularly to ensure we have reached the limit of his natural ability before attempting any injections. I certainly like this approach because we do not want to have to use injections more then absolutely necessary.
